Good Advice by an Expert. Tne experienced poultry raiser knows that, as a rule, the first eggs laid by a pullet are of but little value for hatching purposes. They do not hatch well, and if they do hatch do rot produce strong, healthy stock. Yarded fowls, if properly handled and given ilie ' ariety they should have, will lay more eggs than those running on the free range. They do not run off all their surplus energy, but convert it into eggs, and then non£ of the eggs are lost or eaten by stray dogs or prowling wild animals. Crop-bound fowls may be very fre quently relieved by giving a tea spoonful of olive or cotton seed oil, and then all the warm water the crop will hold, just as warm as you can huve it so as not to do any injury— then gently knead the crop, holding the bird head downward. In this way von can often dislodge the ob struction and shake it out througii the mouth, or it may change position enough to pass on out through the gizzard. At any rate, this operation will do the fowl no harm, and it may r "NT' V_. -A. J oo it a lot of good. Poultry men often make a small incision into the crop and remove the contents, but this is attended with more or less danger to tile life of the specimen. If this meth od is resorted to, the wound and crop should be thoroughly cleansed with some good antiseptic and the open ing drawn together with a silk thread. in either treatment the bird should huve no food for 24 hours, ami then feed lightly upon oread and milk. If your fowls hi- simply scrubs ami you know they are. and you have a longing for sofriethirg good, do not worry with them any longer, Thev will never make good stock, and the sooner the change is made the soon< . you will begin to reap the bench;s of something that will earn money foi you. We often see the threadbare advice of Don't feed much corn to the hens." This is all tomfoolery, for corn is one of the best feeds we have, and If we have to confine hens to a single grain feed, I would select corn. .Many a farmer in the grain bait of the North and West feeds nothing but corn in the way of grain to their hens, ami they are hard to beat when it comes to getting egg?;. Their hens, as a rule, have unlimited range and plenty of exercise, which goes hand in hand with corn-fed hens. A variety in feed is a good thing, but do not get.glared about th* corn question. if you have made a start in the breeding of thoroughbred fowls and have ,a nice surplus stock of eggs to sell, do not expect the people to be roaming the country hunting you. up Put a little advertisement in The Georgian telling what you have to sell. In that way tfie would-be purchaser will find you without trouble, and you will be enabled to dispose of you! urpjus. TWO connecting rooms and kitchenette 64 West Harris. $16. 4-13-61 ^Ducks.
