Address C M., Box 816, care Georgian. 4-25-5 Brookhaven Club Plan Before Capital City Meeting Monday Night Will Probably Decide Country Home Matter. Favorable Action Expected. Definite steps have been taken in the direction of acquiring the Brook- haven Club property, on Peachtree Road, for the country home of the Capital City Club. The Capital Club will hold its annual meeting Monday night at 8 o’clock to consider this and other propositions. In a letter sent out it is stated that "notices have been posted for thirty days that a proposition will be sub mitted to lease the Brookhaven Club property, with option to purchase, and also a motion to increase the membership, with reduced initiation fee for a limited period." The nqtice is signed by Robert F. Maddox, president, and Edward R. Austin, secretary and treasurer. Be cause of the importance of this pro ject a full attendance is expected. A lease on the Brookhaven Club for three years will be offered the Capital City, and, if it is accepted, the club will undoubtedly buy within the time limit. This proposition was put forward some weeks ago, and it is understood that final action will probably be taken. The Brookhaven estates will present the plan. Capital City club men have long wanted a golf course and country club* of their own. and there is a good deal of belief that they will vote to take charge of the other club’s course, spacious grounds, lake and handsome clubhouse. To Tear Down English Place. The Harry English cottage, a.t 458 Peachtree, on the west side of the street between Pine and Howard Streets, will be demolished at once to make way for future improvements, the nature of which has not yet been decided. A permit was asked to-day at the Building Inspector's office, the work to cost {200. This cottage is just south of the James W. English, Jr., mansion and was occupied for years by the late M. R. Emmons. There are no plans for disposing of the mansion. Both places, with a considerable frontage, were re cently purchased from Joseph F. Ga tins by the Realty Investments for $200,000 cash. The Masonic Temple officials ap plied for a permit to make alterations to cost $10,000, and the American Na tional BSnk, at Alabama and Broad Streets, will spend $1,000 op altera tions. This outlay of money by the bank is taken to indicate that no new structure will be built for some time. Cottage Is Sold. W. H. Craig has sold to Mrs. Willie Mae Levi, through the Ralph O. Coch ran Company. 174 St. Charles Avenue, at a price which is withheld. This is a six-room cottage on a 60 by 190- i foot lot. and the location is between l Ponce DeLeon Place and Bonaventure. Drewry Street Subdivision. Tlte Atlanta Development Company has put on the market forty residence i lots in its Drewry Street subdivision. This street is just west of Druid Hills, and the property is improved with chert, tile sidewalks, gas, electric lights, water and sewers. Scarcity of Small Houses. Builders must soon begin the erec tion of more small houses, according to the local renting agencies. The increasing population must be cared for. Several times of late this warn ing has been sounded, and a well- known renting agency now says, in an advertisement headed “Notice to Property Owners,” “Our list of va- .cant houses is badly depleted. We need all kinds of houses all over the city, especially five and six-room cot tages and bungalows.’’ West Tenth Street Subdivision. The Smith & Ewing Real Estate Agency has put on the market forty- two residence lots on West Tenth Street. Several of the streets in this locality are paved and tile sidewalks are laid. Among the owners in the neighborhood are Edward C. Peters, Morris Brandon, Hugh Richardson and George M. McKenzie. Interest in Auction Sale. A great deal of interest centers in j the sale of the DeLeon properties be fore the courthouse door May 6 by Turman, Black & Calhoun, because of the fact that a parcel with both Whitehall and South Forsyth Street frontage will be put up for sale. This is 241 -243 Whitehall and 210-214 South Forsyth Street. The frontage on Whitehall Street is 53 1-3 feet and on Forsyth 107 1-2 feet, with an average depth of 225 feet. An undivided one-third Interest will be sold in the house and lot on | the northwest corner of Castleberry and South Forsyth Streets, known as 205 South Forsyth Street. This fronts | 76.6 feet on Forsyth and the average * depth is 85 feet. Sale on Williams Street. Deeds have gone to record in the sale by John A. Cheatham, of 68 and ; 60 Williams Street, to Alex W. and | Robert G. Stephens for $7,855. The new owners paid $2,000 cash and as- summed a loan of $3,000. Peachtree Street Ledse. The Splitdorf Electrical Company, of New York, have leased “through the L. C. Green Real Estate Agency a store on Peachtree, for three years. The exact location is not given, al though it is understood to be in the new Carl Witt Building at the north east corner of Peachtree and Harris Streets. The consideration was also withheld.
