He is a powerful bird, but we should say that the flesh of a smaller fowl would be much more tender and palatable. The rooster it said to be 9 months old. “The Rramapootra is the name given to another large species of im ported domestic fowl, and by some It is considered superior to any of those mentioned above. They are not so heavy and are excellent layers. “The prizes ranged from $3 to $5, and included guineas, pheasants, eagles, dogs, deer, sheep and hogs, besides the chickens, ducks, turkeys and geese.” We think that the above extracts will be of interest to many of our readers—that they may see the names and the number of breeds then and now. At that time you could count the different breeds of chickens upon the fingers of your two hands. At the present time we have about 150 va rieties, including turkeys, ducks and geese—quite a contrast in numbers. Looks a little like we had been doing something during that time.
