April 30.—A conspiracy in the Portuguese navy, similar to that which resulted in the overthrow of King Manuel and the setting up of a republic in Portugal, was discovered ,No-day, according to a telegram from Tils bon. Seven salloro on board the Portu guese cruiser Sao Gabriel in the Te- gus Harbor were arrested while try ing to signal friends on shore, and later one of them confessed that a plot existed to turn the navy into the fiends of the royalists. * A Government message said that order had been restored, following three days of intermittent rioting, but admitted that the situation still is critical. Pardoned Convicts Will Be Married South Carolina Slayer Freed by Governor Blease Returns to Woman In Case. COLUMBIA, S. F., April So—Gov ernor Blease has added to his long list of pardons by freeing Ed Green and John L. Paige, who. eighteen years ago. killed Ben Carson, a Spar tanburg farmer with whose wife Green was in love. Green and Paige were sent to prison for life. Mrs. Carson knew of the plot to kill her husband. She was pardoned by Governor Ansel. Green and Paige have gone hack to the Carson farm. It is said that Green and Mrs (’arson will marry soon and that Paige will live with them. $2,000,000 ENDOWMENT GIVEN TO NORTHWESTERN CHICAGO, April 30.—The North- western University endowment fund will be enriched by a $2,000,000 fund of anonymous gifts.
