velvet depths with a eland of anguish
Infinitely sad to behold In one so
young and obviously Innocent. Bha

“Oh. daddy, whgt shall we do 1

Her father made no answer. Poor

he had suddenly become deaf and
dumb. To all Intents and purposes he

that he had always been blind?
The next day, tailing the 80 cents
and leaving the quarter for ths chil
dren’s dinner, she went up to New
Turk. Exactly opposite the great ter
minus where she alighted was the
eclntlllarlum, that most famous of

being played nightly to crowded aad

Irma could scarcely believe her
ears. Twenty-five hundred dollars a
week! Why. that must be about fR>
000.000 a year. Daddy and children
j wouldn't starve now. *
“Please sign this," said the man
ager.
1 "It’s nothing daddy would mind ms
signing If he were able to mind?"
asked Irma. She was a good girl and
loved her father. No, daddy wouldn't
mind even if he were able to; ths
manager was quite positive about
that. Then he offered to lend his 800-
h. p. motor to carry her and the good
news back to her family.
On the way she was to learn her
part. She must be sure to be back at
the theater by 8 o’clock, for the cur

handed her Into hl» magnificent ear

the chauffeur, who responded with a
knowing leer. They aped d lazily along
the roads, but Irma, Intent on learn

lightning. Suddenly the car stowed
down and the chauffeur turned In

"Yer to get out ’ere." said the

"How kind he is,” said Irm^ and
got out. The door was opened py an
elderly woman. She had only one ege.
