Poultrymen Save
Time and Money
Egg* Should r 4e Stamped and Guar
anteed—Make Good All
Shortage
Two or more poultry men. or farm
ers interested in poultry can save
many a dol ur by co-operating >b as
to cut down expense^
the handling of their
the buying of supplies
Perhaps no one of
get enough eggs to \
case for shjpment an<
fresh, while by two or three le.spcAii-
sible parties clubbing togeiher for
the purpose they may be able to till
and ship• two or three eases a week,
or one a day, according to circum
stance**.
Let the one most convenient to the
station do the, packing and. shipping
and receive foi; his services so many
cents per crate, just enough to pay for
the work really performed By all
means secure a special customer or
customers for them—a consumer who
knows the value of good, fresh, clean
eggs an 1 is willing to pay extra for
such quality, the producers guaran
teeing such quality. Let each one
who furnishes eggs for shipping have
a rubber stamp, all alike except the
number, each to have a number of
his own on his stamp. The stamps
may read something like this: “VYood-
ville < 'o-operating Poultry Company,
No. 7.” the number representing the
and fa
cililate
produc
is and
party
would
oniptlv
ttli a
have
t hem
party who furnished the eggs bear
ing that number and who would have
to make good all his eggs reported
bad bearing that number. With the
additional penalty that where a cer
tain number of eggs from the pro
ducer ar** reported per month that he
be fined so many cents, to be de
ducted from his returns, the object
being, however, to get parties to the
compact who ill allow but few. if
any. bad eggs to go to market, build
ing up a splendid reputation for the
best that can be secured or pro
duced.
Marketing of Broilers.
The marketing of broilers can be
carried on in much the same man
ner. In fact, let all the'poultry and
products produced by the members be
marketed by a single concern.
Grapes from the great grape belt of
New York and Ohio are marketed in
just this manner. In fact, most of
the fruit grown in this country 1*
handled that way, and there appears
no good reason why poultry products
should not follow’ suit.
It would not only be advantageous
in the way of seeing the profit, but in
the buying of supplies as well, such
ns feeds of various kinds which are
not produced on I lie place, together
with the many accessories, such as
beef ineal. beef scraps, oyster shell
bone meal, grit and the many nooes •
ttary adjuncts to convenient and suc
cessful poultry raising. This plan
would be right handy to the smal'
raiser in the vicinity who would like a
hag of shells or beef scraps who couh
not afford to send a long distam r.
perhaps, and pay heavy freight bill
on small consignments. Fresh bone
could be supplied certain days in the
week by one of the number running a
power grinder in which all had in
vested money to create.
There are some localities in the
South where quite an association
could be formed and carried on suc
cessfully, while there are many oth
era where it would not be practical t»*
g^t more than a little firm of two or
three who would join In whenever
they wished to send off for supplies
It would be none the less profitable.
Keep all ideas of graft out of such
things and let them be co-workers
for the benefit of all concerned. Peo
ple are as a rule slow to take hold of
things like this, we know, but we see
no valid reason why so plain a propo
sition as you help me and I will help
you should not be readily accepted
