Failure results and the business Is blamed as not being of sufficient importance to be a paying investment. Frequently people are enthused with the Idea that they can establish a great poultry plant that will be greatly admired by all who see It. Even men who show good judgment in other things will get- foolish ideas into their heads and waste good money in carrying out odd notions which they have. Money is extrav agantly expended for exhibition speci mens to be used in the breeding yard when the chances are that they have been bred for some of the superfluous fancy points for the show room, to the exclusion of some decidedly more beneficial points in the breeding yard. Much Labor Lost. MUCH labor is lost by not having things to your hand in and around the poultry buildings. Hun dreds of steps are daily wasted that should be put to better account. In planning houses for the poultry busi ness one should study thoroughly the lnp and outs of the dally round to see how many things can be put right to the attendant’s hand so that he will not be obliged to make special trips for things that should be better ar ranged. Much food is annually wasted in many poultry yards by feeding care lessly upon the ground soft feed* ol various kinds. Overfeeding of food result** In a lot of it being Its over to sour and be picked up latyi in the day when it is not fit to D« used as food at all. Then it Is wort# than lost in the harm it is likely to dd to the stock eating it. Raise Feed Stuffs. If possible raise a lot of your feed stuff, which will help to lower the feed bill expense very materially. In that way you can Increase the profits, both a-comlng and a-going, by mak ing a good compost heap of the drop pings, mixing them with soil as they are taken from the house. This ap plied to the land where you are to raise the food crops will cause them to bring forth in greater abundance Study to use all the possible horns sources of food supplies, by feeding all the refuse or small stuff from ths root crops, such ae the small potatoes, either sweet or Irish, turnips, carrots cabbage, etc. Some of it can be fed raw, other parts can be cooked, and while hot thickened with bran enough to take up all the surplus liquid. Sea soned a little, it makes a splendid food out of an otherwise waste prod uct. A mill to grind fresh bones wtU prove a means of great saving, in that you can use it to grind up all bone# and scraps from the table. It can also be used to out up vegetable* when it Is desired to feed them rawg in fact, it will be found to be an artfr* cle that Is ever ready to do a good turn. In dressing fowls for table nas all the heads and shank* can b# ground for chicken food. It is sur prising how much *tuflf can be util ized and made to do duty as good food stuff, and save something that tl more expensive and no better for tb* stock. We have only mentioned a few of the many things that can bs done to save labor and expense, bid which can be carried out to the lhntt by any enterprising person *0 in* by anj efined.
