The final arguments, pro and con,
in the Whitehall Street grade matter
will be heard to-morrow afternoon at
8 o’clock by the streets committee of
Council at the City Hall, and a de
cision will be reached as to whether
or not $50,000 will be raised and ap
propriated for the work. Some 500‘
persons are expected to attend the
meeting, since various interests are
affected. A large majority of the
property owners, it Is said, favor the
proposed grade, while a few are hold
ing out.
The proposition is to cut down
eight feet at Trinity Avenue and to
-8 | fin that much at Brotherton. The
extent of the grading will be from
Mitchell Street to the intersection of
Forsyth and Whitehall, and the effect
of it, according (o the people who are
in favor of it, will be to help the en
tire South Side.
Property owners have promised
$15,000 to $20,000, and Council will be
asked to give the balance.
