PARIS. May !' King Alfonso’s
state visit to France came to a close
to-day with a remarkable aerial ex
hibition at the St. Oyr Aerodome As
the Spanish King and his offle nI
hosts looked on one aeroplane aftej
another ascended until the sky seem
ed filled with them. Alfonso said It
was one of the most Inspiring sights
he had ever seen.
One of the most interesting fea
tures of the Spanish monarch's visit
has been his extreme democratic be
havior. At Fontainebleau a gorgeous
stand decorated with the royal colors
of Spain had been erected in which
Alfonso was to have sat while the
troops were reviewed. The chair in
which the King was to have sat was
of bronze

President Poincare and the French
Ministers, all sob-inn. obsequious and
in dress suits, drew to one side to
allow Alfonso to enter the pavilion.

Elberton and Eastman Will Open
Rich Country to Connection With
Seaboard Air Line.
Another railroad will he added to
Georgia’s imposing list in June, when
the Elbert on and Eastern Kajlwny
Company begins operation from El-
berton through Cauthen, Fortsonia,
Bell, Norman and Mallorysville to
Tlgnall, a distance of 21.8 miles. It
connects with the Seaboard at Elber-
ton. Eventually, it may push on to
Washington to connect with the Geor
gia Railroad.
The new line taps an agricultural
district of some Importance, which
now has no railroad facilities. It
has standard roadbed and equip
ment It is capitalized at $300,000 in
bonds and $200,000 in stock. W. O.

AIRSHIPS PREDICTED AS
DEFENDERS OF THE CANAL
NEW ORLEANS, May 9.—That
aeroplanes are to be used extensively
for defenses of the Panama Canal
was the statement of Aviator Robert
G. Fowler, who returned here to-day
from Panama. He asserted that
Colonel Goethals would ask Congress
for an appropriation for aeroplanes
and hydro-aeroplanes to be used in
connection with the proposed fortifi
cations.

of Misappropriating More

Cason, charged with the embezzle
ment of more than $7,000 from the
Bank of Crossland, was arrested to
day at (’rossland and brought to
Moultrie, where his bond was as
sessed at $2,000.
The bank has not resumed business
and will likely liquidate.
It is alleged that Cason not only
embezzled the bank’s funds*, but un-
ih i various pretexts had stockholders
of the institution indorse his notes at
other banks far large sums. Cason

Charter Is Granted for Rehabilita
tion of Georgia’s Oldest Edu
cational Institution.
Following the granting of a char
ter by Judge J. T. Pendleton Thurs
day afternoon, it is expected plans i
for the rebuilding of Oglethorpe Uni- j
versity, Georgia’s oldest educational
institution, will he announced within 1
a short time. It is generally under
stood that expenditures will total
nearly $1,000,000.
The charter is for twenty years
and stipulates that only members of
the Presbyterian Church shall be
members of the board of directors,
and that each director shall make a
donation of $1,000 to the college.
