The breeds having this comb are the Brahmas, Buckeyes, all the Cor nish and Sumatra. The most common defect in these combs Is the twisting from Bide to side near the middle. In other words, it is a kink in all three of the rows of points and makes the Comb decidedly out of line when viewed from Ih front. Another kind of comb that Is often seen In one where the middle part of the combs show all right and is •good, stj»p»- ir> itself, hut the sides are very faintly outlined and would aJmost be taken for a single comb At first sight Jn mating up such stock for breeding purposes one is very likely to get some single combs and then the trouble has commenced. The V comb is a very peculiar one and looks much like a pair of horns standing up from the center of the head. They show but very slightly upon the heads of the hens. On the well matured males it shows up all right. The comb in these breeds is, however, not considered a valuable asset, so that the smaller It is the bettei* It la liked. Valu« by Judges. The breeds having this form of comb are a« follows: All the Polish (which are eight varie ties). the Houdans, Crevecoeurs, and LaFleche, French varieties. Then we have the Malay and the Hilkie, with the strawberry comb, which is not very much of a definite comb and is found only upon these two breeds of relatively small Im portance. The comb is really of more Importance than is generally consid ered as a distinguishing feature of the breed or variety it represents. Take, for example, the Light Brah ma, the variety which stand* at the head of our list of thoroughbred fowls for recognized type in breed ing and put a sort of mongrel type •f comb upon it and what would it be worth? Or the Plymouth Rock and put a wrinkled turn-over sort of a comb upon it and a Rock man would simply laugh at you and want to know what it was mixed with. It frequently occurs, however, that some of the larger combed hens of a variety are the heaviest layers. That is, they may have a comb almost too heavy for the breed, although of the right type, and be greatest layers of the flock. Questions and Answer*.
