PARIS. May f*.—King Alfonso's Mat* visit to Prance came to a close to-day with a remarkable aerial ex hibition at the St. Cyr Aerodome. As* the Spanish King and his official hosts looked on one aeroplane after another ascended until the sky seem ed filled with them. Alfonso said it was one of the most inspiring sights he had ever seen. One of the most interesting fea tures of the Spanish monarch's visit has been his extreme democratic be havior. At Fontainebleau a gorgeous stand decorated with the royal colors of Spain had been erected in which Alfonso was to have sat while the troops were reviewed. The chair in which the King was to have sat was of bronze. An Astonished Ministry. President Poincare and the French Ministers, all solemn, obsequious and In dress suits, drew to one side to allow Alfonso to enter the pavilion. New Georgia Road to Start Trains in June Elberton and Eastman Will Open Rich Country to Connection With Seaboard Air Line. Another railroad will be added to eorgia's imposing list in Junes when the Elberton and Eastern Railway Company begins operation from El berton through Cauthen, Fortsonia, Bell, Norman and Matlorysville to Tignall. a distance of 21.8 miles. It connec ts with the Seaboard at Elber ton. Eventually, It may push on to Washington to connect with the Geor gia Railroad. The new line taps an agricultural district of some importance, which now has no railroad facilities. It. has standard roadbed and equip ment. AIRSHIPS PREDICTED AS DEFENDERS OF THE CANAL NEW ORLEANS, May 9 That aeroplanes are to be used extensively for defenses of the Panama Canal was the statement of Aviator Robert G. Fowler, who returned here to-day from Panama. He asserted that Colonel Goethals would ask Congress for an appropriation for aeroplanes and hydro-aeroplanes to be used in connection with the proposed fort ill ations. AS AN EMBEZZLER Crossland Bank Official Accused of Misappropriating More Than $7,000. MOULTRIE. G A „ May X. .1 H Cason, charged with the embezzle ment of more than $7,000 from the Bank of Crossland, was arres’ted to day at Crossland and brought to Moultrie, where his bond was as sessed at $2,000. The hank has not resumed business and will likely liquidate. It is alleged that Cason not only embezzled the bank’s funds*, hut un- dcr various pretexts had stockholders of the institution indorse his notes at other banks for large sums. Cason was prominent in church circles and had the confidence of the people of Crossland. SENATE FAVORS COLCOCK. WASHINGTON, May 9.—The Sen ate Finance Committee reported fa vorably to-day on the nomination of S. V. Colcoek to succeed Richard Small, the negro Collector of the Port at Beaufort. S. C, ! Oglethorpe to Spend Million Eebuilding Charter Is Granted for Rehabilita tion of Georgia's Oldest Edu cational Institution. Following the granting of a char ter by Judge J. T. Pendleton Thurs day afternoon, it is expected plans for the rebuilding of Oglethorpe Uni versity. Georgia's oldest educational institution, will be announced within a short time. It is generally under stood that expenditures will total nearly $1,000,000. The charter is for twenty years and stipulates that only members of the Presbyterian Church shall be members of the board of directors, and that each director shall make a donation of $1,000 to the college. The incorporators are James W. English. Sr.. Frank M. Inman, John K. Ottley, Thornwell Jacobs, Edgar Watkins. Hoke Smith. W. Li. Moore. Hugh K. Watkins. E. G. Jones, James R. Durrieux, it was reported to-day that Baroness Vaughan would soon marry again Baroness Vaughan was the mor ganatic w ife of King Leopold of Bel gium, and bore him two sons. After Leopold's death she married M. Dur rieux, but entered suit for divorce, al leging infidelity. A decree was grant ed in her favor yesterday. Baroness Vaughan began life as a washerwoman, but ner beauty at tracted the eye of the aged Belgian King, who took her under his protec tion and showered wealth upon her. Her next husband.
