Owen Poultry Farm,
Largest in World,
Has Changed Hands
Maurice F. Delano, Former Manager,
Now Owner of the Great Concern.
A Business Proposition.
r K ,.«t ;l nrt most profit- I
arms in the United
the Owen Farms at Vineyard-
n. Mass—has been purchased by )
trice V. Delano, for years man-
of the great farm,
sen Farms is without doubt bet-
and more widely known from one
of this country to the other than
other poultry plant In existence,
known not only as a farm
raising the very finest stock that can
be produced by the most expert and
scientific methods in the hands of
men of long experience, but It Is a
farm with a reputation for furnish
ing the customer the thing that he
pays for. Certainly an enviable rep-
iiUtton
Some fifteen years ago this farm
V as established by William Harry
owen, of Victor Talking Machine
fame He started out with the Idea
that it was to be a strict business
proposition from start to finish, and
no stone was to be left unturned that
might work for the betterment of the
deal.
With this end in view, he secured
the services of Maurice F. Delano as
manager. In making this selection he
certainly showed his remarkable
judgment, for we do not believe he
,ould have found a better man If he
had tried all the leading poultry-men
of thts country.
Superior Fitness.
Mr. Delano has shown his supe
rior fitness for the work by building
tip one of the greatest, if not the
greatest, poultry businesses In this
country, not only from the stand
point of amount of business done In
dollars and cents, but In the quality
of the business done and the ulti
mate satisfaction created in the end.
l.arge prices have been secured for
the major part of the stock sold, but
with It all has gone the stamp of
cuality and the guarantee of the farm
back of it.
It is not every manager of a farm
of this character that Is able to put
up such a guarantee of quality and
know what he is tulking about, for
there are but a very few who are
such export Judges of the stock they
breed as is Mr. Delano. He is not
only a Judge of stock and is able to
make expert selections for the show
room and the fine breeding yard, but
1 , is up to the snuff when II comes to
p :tting the stock in condition for the
<B> <0> #
LD11LD
show room. It always looks like It
had Just stepped out of a bandbox.
Specialties of Farm.
The specialties of this farm have
been BulY. White and Black Orping
tons. White Wyandottes, White
'■’yr-.-Uth Bocks, and at times a few
Others of the leading varieties, but
these have had the principal atten
tion and have been tHeib leaders, Mr.
Owen took up the breeding of fine
poultry as a pastime feature suited
to a retired business man as he w-as.
But the business grew from year to
year way beyond his fondest expecta
tions, and has finally come to the
place whero he finds it more of a
business than lie bargained for. hence
his desire to sell and take a real rest.
His last year's mail order business
amounted to ISO,000.
The reader can well imagine some
thing of the work nuch a business
would entail. Mr. Owen has sold this
immense business, lock, stock and
barrel, to his business manager, Mr.
1 iclano, and has leased him the farm
with all its equipment. Mr. Owen
says he feels that the busthess has
fallen into capable hands ahd will be
carried forward upon the same broad
lines as heretofore.
We are not personally acquainted
with Mr. Owen, but we have known
Mr. Delano for years, even before he
went to the farm, and we consider
him not only a gentleman from every
standpoint, hut a poultryman of the
first water.
We bespeak for Mr. Delano un
bounded success in his new position
us proprietor of the farm he has so
long managed
This transaction Is without doubt
the greatest In the history of the great'
poultry industry of this country, and
we felt that It was due uur readers
to know something of a farm that
..nl been built up from a plain be
ginning to one doing an $110,000 an
nual business. , , .
