Should Exercise Care
In the Establishment
Of Poultry Business
Products Must Be in Best Possible
Condition—Satisfied Custom
ers Big Asset.
Every possible rare should be exer
cised in the establishment of a poultry
business. Whether for the breeding
and selling of thoroughbred stork, for
breeding and exhibition purposes or
for mere utility marketing eggs and
chickens, the same amount of care
should be entertained.
One should not only advertise his
products upon the market in such a
condition that they will advertise him.
No matter whether It Is a fine pen for
exhibition purposes or a dozen or case
of eggs to go Into the market stall, let
them be in the very best possible con
dition not only for sterling quality,
but for looks as well.
When shipping eggs for hatching,
let nothing go out but what are fresh,
and from the pen from which they are
ordered. You will make more money
by turning down a few orders for lack
of eggs rather than duplicate from
stock not so good and likely not to
give satisfaction. The pleased and sat
isfied customers are the ones that are
going to advertise your business. They
do as much for you in‘the course of
time as a newspaper advertisement.
How to Ship.
Ship your eggs well packed in nice
egg boxes made for the purpose, nice
ly marked and with some attractive
ca,rd of your business upon the cover,
together with the purchaser’s name
and address, and the inscription,
“EGGS FOR HATCHING.”
In shipping stock for breeding pur
poses the coops should be made
strong, light and durable. They should
be made high enough to allow male
birds to straighten up full height
without running their hea'ds through
the top of the coop. In fact, it is
better to construct the coops so that
they can not get their heads out at
all. for there is much danger of their
getting hurt in the handling of coops
and from other boxes being piled upon
them. They should be labeled in an
attractive manner like the eggs.
As indicated above, care should be
exercised to fully describe all stock
sold, and then carefully fill the orders,

giving the purchaser just what he

Should the buyer, from any cause,
be dissatisfied, allow him to return
what he has bought and refund his
money, he paying .the express, of
course.
Questions and Answers.
Judge Marshall: I have the Buff
Orpington chickens. They are gold
layers In the winter and early spring,
but at this time of the year they be
come broody in great numbers and It
is almost impossible, to break, them of
the habit, (’an you give me any ad
vice along tbte line that will help to
get them back Into the ranks of the
layers? If you can, I will certainly
appreciate It. MRS. R. B. C.
Seyieca, S'. C.
ANSWER—One of the best plans
that we have tried Is to make for the
purpose a coop with slatted bottom.
This is a coop with laths nailed on
about two inches apart for the bot
tom. Prop this up from the ground
by some blocks under the cornets or
nail short legs to the four corners..
Placed in this, the hen will haye to
practically roost all the time, and in
doing this she will soon get out of the
habit of being broody.
If this is not sufficient, to do the
work, screw a hook eye into the top
of the box in the center and suspend
the coop by a wire.. In that way every
move the hen makes will shift the po
sition of the box, causing it to tilt
about. This will 'reate an uneasy
feeling that will soon break her up.
Eggs—All Varieties.
THE EGGS of different varieties of
fowls will be found classified under
their respective breeds in the future,
