M ILLEDGEVILLE. May 17.—One
of the most brilliant receptions
of this season was given Gov
ernor and Mrs. Brown by President
and Mrs. Parks of the Georgia Nor
mal and ’ Industrial College in the
parlors of the old Governor’s Man
sion Wednesday evening. The sale of
horn* made candies, cake and fancy
work conducted by the Methodist
Philathea Class. Monday, was a big
success. A neat sum was realize*
which will be used in sending a rep
resentation from the class to the Na
tional Barafa- Philathea Convention
to be held in Nashville the latter
part of June.
Mrs. G. FI. Tunnel entertained at
her lovely home on Green Street
Wednesday evening in honor of her
attractive house guest. Miss Heath,
of Gadsden.
Mrs. O. W. Stembridge entertained
the Philathea Sewing Club at her
home on West Montgomery Street,
at a porch party Thursday afternoon.
The affair was delightfully, .planned.
The guests were met at the door by
Mrs. Stembrldge and shown to the
side of porch which was a bower of
cut flowers and ferns. Here the
guests spent a merry hour In sewing
and conversation after which a deli
clous ice course was served.
One of the most charming mar
riages to occur in some time was
that of Miss Julia Smith of this city
and F. C. Me Waters, of Atlanta, Mr.
McWaters is a traveling salesman
for a large wholesale tobacco com
pany in Atlanta. Miss Smith has
been employed by the Joseph Dry
Goods Company lor a number of
years. The marriage was % surpris
to the many friends of both parties
as Miss Smith has known Mr. Mc
Waters scarcely two months.

R OME, May 17. The marriage of
Miss Mamie#Headden, daughter
of Dr. R. B. Headden, for 26
years pastor of the First Baptist
church, and Robert Kennard, of Lit
tle Rock. Ark., formed the principal
social event of tin* week in Rome.
The First Baptist church was beau
tifully decorated for the occasion. Dr.
Headden, father of the bride, officiat

Miss Vivian Hart, of Arkansas,
Miss Harriet Converse, of Valdosta,
Mises Ruth Smith and Helen Estes,
of Gainesville, are among the young
lady students of Agnes Scott college,
who are expected to be here May 28
as the house guests of Miss Emily
Arrington. The affair is to include a
number of lovely belles and delight

Miss Gladys Willingham will re
turn from Bessie Tift college on May
22 and on June 7 a coterie of attrac
tive school mates will be her guests

Considerable interest is attached to
the marriage of Miss Irene Nicker
son. of Athens, and Gordon Flight,
which is to take place in Athens at
a date to be announced later on. Miss
Nickerson is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas Henry Nickerson,
among the wealthiest people of
Athens, and Mr. Hight comes from a
influential and wealthy family of
Rome.

“bridge picnic" was a pleasant
social event of the week here
and was given by Mrs. Cicero Young
at her country home on Thursday.
The ladies invited went out in the,
morning and enjoyed a game, having
the pleasure of playing another in the
afternoon after the arrival of the male
members of the party.

w ho has been the guest of her sister.
Mrs. Ferrill, has been pleasantly en
tertained during her stay here and a
number of entertainments have been
given in her honor. Mrs. Ferrill was
the hostess at two enjoyable bridge
parties for Mrs. Fields.

S. C., is the guest of Miss Louise
