Address
GOOD FOR 1,CC0 VOTES.
Only One Nomination Blank Can be Voted for Any Contestant.
Orieat will be the scramble for coupons to-morrow.
Inadvertently, the coupon calling for 15 votes in The Georgian ind
American’s pony contest was omitted from Iasi Sunday's issue of The
American. Afmr consultation and debate, it was decided that the fairest
thing to do would he to make the coupon in the next Sunday paper val
ued at 30 votes. This was done.
No sooner was it announced than the contestants began lav ing plans
for getting copies of to-morrow s American. In hundreds of cases sub
scribers were canvassed early In th? week and induced to promise to
save to-morrow's coupon for contestants.
News dealer* were besieged with inquiries, and many of them have
increased their orders for to-morrow, foreseeing unusual demand.
Match the totals rise as soon as these coupons begin to come in.*
But they are rising already.

OATS CROP DAD IN WISCONSIN.
CHICAGO. May 24.—B. W. Stow
wires from Sedalia. Mo.: "Central Mis
souri counties have had scattered but
insuttich*ni tains*. During the past week
wheat has lost the extra promise that
• ha ra derived it early In the season, but
with seasonable conditions hereafter
will make more than an average crop.
The crop is heading in the River coun-
• * s, but will not harvest until last week
in lune.
"Oats are irreparably damaged yel
low and thin—considerable may be
Massed as practically a failure. Only
the early sown is promising: acreage is
reduced. Corn still being planted and
some plowing yet to do; ground dry and
hard to work.
"The early planted is In good shape
and is up with a good stand

Bearish Condition Report Causes
Sharp Decline From Early
Best Figure.
NEW York. May 24 on bullish |
weather news and increasing firmness
n the cotton goods market the cotton
market opened steady to-day, with first
prices at a net gain of 4 .o S points
from last night's close. The ring showed
a disposition to buy on all breaks, which
helped in sustaining th« market After
the call, however, the list became un
settled and easier, influenced i» weather
bulletins repotting lower temperatures
over the Eastern belt.
This class of selling caused prices in
drop sharply. At tin* end of the first:
hour prices were 2 to 5 points under the (
opening quotations. Later the selling !
I became freer, based upon the report of h i
prominent spot house in Memphis, giv- j
ing the condition of the crop at 83.1 per
cent to May 21, and acreage increase of |
2.7 per cent.
The market, however, held rather
steady at the decline, through week-end
short covering. July closed at 11.73 and
October 11.20. The entire list at the
close aggregated a net gain of 1 to 6
points from the final quotations of Fri
day The tone was steady.
Estimated cotton receipts:

OPINIONS ON GRAIN.
CHICAGO, May 24.—Bartlett, Frazier
& Co.: Wheat—The weather map shows
light rains in the Northwest and gener
ally fair over the rest of the belt. Look
for narrow market, as traders will take
no big chances on either side of the
market over Sunday.
Corn—The market continues to show
a very strong undertone
Oats We believe the long side of the
market on sharp reactions will prove
safest.
Provisions Look for prices to go
higher.

CUK AGO, May L'4 The "annual
rop scare" was on in earnest to-dav
and advances were shown of • 7 1 c to l' ,r
for wheat, with 1 he July the strongest
■pot m the list and September the
weakest. As for several days pa.., the
reports received from Kansas were con
dieting In character, but this did not
seem to have any effect on the profes
sionals around whom the trade was cen
tered. The outsider has not come into
the market to any extent, owing to fears
of manipulation, coupled with the possi
bility of suffering losses in case of soak
ing rains where needed overnight in
the Southwest.
Corn closed unchanged to higher.
Oats were ‘V lower for the May, ' 8 c
lower for July, but Ve higher for Sep
tember.
There were small advances in provi
sions and the undercurrent was one of
strength.
