the contestants are being bombarded
with letters these days from the chi
dren Of course, it is understood that
the soliciting of votes need not be
confined to tne district in which the
contestant Is entered.

One little girl “got busy’* at a re
ception her mother held the other
evening and canvassed her mother -
guests, with the result that she got
six yearly subscriptions, which gives
her 21.000 vote* 1 .
Frank Ison. Jr., of College Park is
one of the most energetic of all the
boys and girls. Right nt the first,
he jumped out ahead of all the
others 1n the number of votes polled,
not only in his own district, but in
all districts Recently, his standing
hae been remaining about stationary,
but he promises developments soon.

COW RACES WITH MARE
AND BEATS HER EASILY
NEW RICHMOND, WIS., May 24 —
To mottle a controversy of Ions stand-
ins as to their racina ability, a con-
test between a cow, and a mare own
ed by rival hotel keepers In this city
was held at the fair grounds to-dsy
A big crowd was present.
Tlie cow is the property of Anthony
Meath, and the horse is owned by
George Cranaton. The horse was to
trot or pace, the cow to go as “he
pleased. It was to he once around the
half-mile track, standing start. The
cow was a safe winner. Colonel
Meath’s winnings aggregated $25.
