Committee Meetings. • Mgnday, June 16. has been fixed as llie date for the formal opening to the public of the Hotel Ansley, at the southwest corner of North Forsyth and James Streets. The hotel will be run on the European plan, and J. F. Let ton will be the manager. The structure was started in th spring of 1912, and is to cost $500,000. Tt is eleven stories high and contains 300 rooms. The Ansley Hotel Com pany is the builder. All but 40 of the rooms have private baths. Interesting Deeds Recorded. Deeds have gone to record in sev eral interesting realty transfers. For $20,000 Mrs. Fannie B. E&dy has sold to Mrs. Mabel H. Moody and Dayton Hale 41 and 43 West Harris Street. 50 bv 192 feet and 100 feet west of Spring Street. The terms were $3,000 cash and four notes of $4,250 each, with interest at 6 per cent. For $12,000 Mrs. Ellen McGowan Phelan Goldsmith has sold to William and J. A. Cook and G. R. Maddox 390 Whitehall Street. 50 by 196 feet, 100 feet southwest of Hood Street. The hole for the Healey Building foundations was fairly alive with steel girders Thursday morning. The steel gang has pushed this work fast since the arrival of t^e two monster der ricks, and in another week there will be considerable framework in evi dence. Thousands of people have stopped by to view the scene. Peachtree Owners Hopeful. Prominent members of the Peach tree Street property owners’ commit tee. who appeared before the Finance t ’ommittee of Council this week to ask for $5,000 for widening Peachtree between Forsyth and Harris Streets, will go before that body again Friday morning. Considerable hope of suc cess in this project has been ex pressed on account of the nominal amount asked for. Whitehall's Chance Friday. People conversant with city hall matters declare that Whitehall Street property owners nave a better chance of an appropriation for regrading Whitehall than any of the various claimants who want improvements in different sections of the city. They base this assertion on the fact that council and the streets committee have already gone on record almost unanimously as favoring the White hall project, and the further fact that owners of property have raised $17,000 and are asking the city for only $30,000 for the improvement. A citizen whose business is in the city hall declared that should Mayor Woodward see fit for any reason to veto the appropriation, council would doubtless pass the measure over his veto, since the project is one^of city wide concern. The proposition which Whitehall interests have put ap to council is to cut down greatly at Trinity Ave nue and All correspondingly at Broth- erton, in order to perfect the grade and provide an improvement of last ing benefit. This agitation was start ed months ago by leading representa tives of the populous South Side, the argument being that the city needed an extension of its retail district, and that southward on Whitehall was the logical course for this to take. Incidentally, real estate dealers who are interested along Whitehall con tend that prices have been propor tionately too low. and they antici pate a quick rise and much activity as soon as the prayed-for improve ments are assured. Decatur’s Home-Coming Day.
