Asked to Leave the Swan Hotel
When it Is Found They Are
Not Married.
PHILADELPHIA, June 4.—Mrs.
Daisy Opie Grace, who was acquitted
in Atlanta of attempting' to kill her
husband, furnished the gossips two
spicy morsels by announcing, first,
that she was not the Wife of Charles
H. Oldham, and. second, that they ex
pected to marry as soon as she gets
h**j? divorce.
Mrs. Grace 4 made the announce
ments immediately following re
ceipt of a request from David Mar
tin that she vacate her apartments in
the Swan Hotel, at Coatesville, of
which Martin is proprietor. Oldham
some time ago told acquaintances
that Mis. Grace had become his wife,
and society matrons at Coatesville,
believing that they were occupying
the same apartments, were -shocked
beyond expression yesterday when
they heard the ceremony was still ip
contemplation.
Mrs. Grace expressed amusement at
the whole affair. She said she and
Mr. Oldham went to Coatesville that
she might avoid publicity attendant
upon her divorce decree, which she
expects any day, but that they occu
pied separate apartments. When the
divorce is granted, she said, she and
Mr. Oldham intend to marry.
"This is just a prying woman’s
work." said Mrs. Grace. "I am being
watched by detectives, I know, and I
was foolish to take on so mans
friends. Mr. Oldham and I are occu
pying separate apartments. I thought
it was funny when he told some of
hitf friends I was his wife. We will
be married as soon as I get my di
vorce, w hich I am'expecting any day
now."
Just because the unfounded scan
dal talk was hurting Mr. Oldham’s
business, Mrs. Grace said, they in
tended to leave and go in different di
rections—-she to the mountains and he
somewhere else. Then when her di
vorce is granted they will be married,
surely, and the gossips will have
nothing to talk about.

Home-Coming Celebration Draws
Hundreds to See Cornerstone
Laying and Ceremonies.
Decatur Wednesday is recovering
from the biggest celebration in its his
tory. Tuesday was "Homecoming
Day” and the anniversary of the birth
of Jefferson Davis. Both were ob
served with ceremonies. The city pre
sented a gala attire and one round
of entertainment followed another.
Many civic and patriotic organiza
tions took part in a parade which fol
lowed the crowning feature of the
day, the laying of the cornerstone of
a new $25,000 school building. George
W. Napier, past grand master of the
Georgia Masons, presided. Orators
were J. Howell Green. John A. Mont
gomery and Hooper Alexander.
Children of the Decatur public
schools and Boy Scouts took an ac
tive part in the celebration. The Con
federate monument on the South
Court Square was the rallying place
for the Pythagoras Masons and the
Board of Trade.
Dr. A. M. Soule, of the State Agri
cultural College, opened the day’s
program at 10 o’clock, when he ad
dressed a large crowd at the court
house.
A patriotic address by C. M. Chan
dler on- the life and work of Jef
ferson Davis struck a responsive
chord.
Representative-elect R. M. Smith
urged the. Fifth District Agricultural
School for DeKalb County.
A smoker at the courthouse at-6: 30
o’clock gave Atlantans an opportunity

Georgians Feast on
500-Pound Turtle
CHARLESTON. S. C„ .Tune 4.—-A
sea turtle weighing nearly 500 pounds
and measuring 5 feet 6 inches from
tip to tip was caught off the Isle of
Palms by fishermen.
The huge creature ended its career
in the Isle of Palms soup kettle, feed
ing many Georgians who came over
for the feast. It was the largest tur
tle ever captured here.
House Will Mark
Time Until June 23
WASHINGTON, June 4.—An agree
ment has been reached between the
House leaders to transact no partisan
business until June 23.
Meanwhile the House will take re
cesses for three days at a time and
the currency committee will work
on a currency bill.

BAPTISTS OF U. S.
Memphis, Too, After Next Year’s
Session of Sunday School Con
gress—Meeting in Oklahoma,
MUSKOGEE, OKLA., June 4.—The
eighth annual session of the Sunday
School Congress of the National Bap
tist Convention opened here to-day.
Delegates came from every part of
the United Statea
Notable among those to arrive in
Muskogee was the train bearing the
officials of the Sunday School Con
gress with the Tennessee, Georgia,
South Carolina. Virginia, New- York,
Florida and Mississippi delegations.
It was* known as the “Official Sunday
School Congress Train."
Arrayed in Congress caps, a chorus
consisting of 252 voices sang "Hail
the Baptist Congress" as the train
pulled in.
The first subject under discussion
was "Interdenominational Sunday
School, Organizations, National and
International, Their Theoretical and
Practical Value.” There were a half-
dozen papers read taking up this in
detail. The next subject w-as “Why
Should the Pastor and Church Urge
the Organization of Teacher-Train
ing Classes?"
Officers have labored to make the
Congress the most brilliant Sunday
school gathering in the history of the
interdenomination.
It is not known just how many cit
ies are clamoring for the next ses
sion, but It was learned from Henry
A. Boyd, secretary, that invitations
had been received from St. Louis,
Atlanta, New York City, Atlantic
City and Memphis.

Offers Macon a Park.
MACON.—Willis B. Sparks, a Ma
con capitalist, has offered the city
a dark 200 acres in size, tw-o miles
from the city limits, and the street
railw-ay company has agreed to extend
a line to the place, if Council will
equip the park and maintain it.
Ninth District Commencement.
CLARKESVILLE.—The commence
ment exercises of the Ninth District
A & M. School, now on, mark the end
of a mo?t successful year under the
principalship of Professor M. C. Gay.
H. A. Nix. an attorney of Athens, of
the university law class. 1912, deliv
ered the address to the graduating
class of eight.
Terrell Hall Planned.
MILLEDGEVILLE.—The name of
Lamar Hall, at the Normal, which
was named in honor of the late Rich
N. Lamar, will not be changed to Ter
rell Hall. At a meeting of the trus
tees they decided to erect a new hall
on the college grounds which is to be
named in honor of ex-Governor Ter
rell.

the country and will bring it to them:”
Evidently he wants a pony.
The Georgian and American can not give him help, though, any
more than is given other contestants. The contest is strictly impar

Vote totals are growing all along the line. No boy or girl will have
