The great bell at Moscow, at the foot of the Kremlin, is so large and heavy that it could never be raised into the tower. Its circumference at the bottom is nearly sixty-eight feet, and its height more than twenty-one feet. In its stoutest part it is twenty-three inches thick, and its weight has been compute'd to be 433,- 722 pounds. The bell is called the “Czar Bell.” It was cast in 1735, and is now resting on a stone pedestal near the tower of Ivan the Great.
