That members of the State Legis lature have been quietly Inspecting prospective sites for the new' Gov ernor’s Mansion became known Sat urday. A small delegation has been out several times to look over the fine residence of Edwin P. Ansley in Ans ley Park, it is said, and have sought to get a proposition from Mr. Ansley. While Mr. Ansley’s position in the matter has not been learned, close friends declare that hr will sell. His lot is one of the highest in Ansley Park, with a commanding view of the surrounding country. It contains six or eight acres and about 1,000 feet of frontage on two streets. The house is tw’o stories and built of stone quar ried in the park. The delegation is said to have look ed over W. F. WinecolY’s marble house in Anslev Park. This was offered to the Legislature two years ago. Mr. Winecoff wanted an appraisal board to determine the value of the place and agreed to sell at that price. The A. G. Rhodes stone house at the foot of Peachtree circle on Peach tree also came in for casual inspec tion. This was likewise offered, among other houses, in 1911. Druid Hills Cash Sale. Mrs. Alice A. Aug. 3.—“Women sin emotionally, unthinkingly; men often sin calculatingly, knowing they can escape penalties," said Police Mag istrate Daniel Winters in discharging a woman who shot twice at, but missed, a man she alleged was the father of her two children and who cast her aside and married another after she had lived with him eleven years. The woman is Miss Alice Hopkins, aged 33 years, and the man is C. H. YVisser, 60, a wealthy coal operator. “I do not advocate shooting, but the peculiar circumstances gives this woman a great deal of latitude, said the magistrate. If judges would treat man and woman exactly alike, I im agine there would be less masculine license. Man Should Not Escape. "It is not fair that a woman should be an outcast and a man escape blame. In the case of a man and a woman about town, except where the mail started the woman on her down ward course, it is different. "But when a man, as it seems Wis- ser has done, lives with a woman as his wife, and that woman has been faithful to him and has borne him children whom she is rearing to the best of her ability, then that woman should get at least as much consider ation as the man. "Except for the perfunctory fact that no marriage ceremony has been performed, he and she are man and w ife, and even he does not deny that she has been faithful. Why Should She Bear Blame? “Then why, in the name of justice, should she bear all the blame? There is something wrong about a social system that accepts such a man and ostracizes this woman. "Some say I have established a precedent in the Wisser-Hopkins case. If I have, I mean to follow it up. I do not mean I would desire to con done faults of women and punish only those of men, but I would like to feel that I could be fair and square to both, and judge them from a standpoint not influenced by sex dif ference." FOR GIRLS' ROME Wayward Child-Wife's Trouble Causes Broyles to Speak for State Institution. Recorder Nash Broyles Saturday morning characterized Mrs. F. J. Rathnaw. 16 years old, as a striking example of the need of a State or County reform im>titution to which wayward girls could be committed. The Recorder took occasion to com mend the plan of the Men and Re ligion Forward Movement to obtain such a home through legislation. “Cases of girls like this one are a problem, and I hardly know what to do with them," remarked the Recor der. “The State or the county cer tainly should provide an institution to which wayward girls can be com mitted by the courts. As it is now, the courts are powerlesp to commit a gir! to a reform school without the consent of the parents." Mrs. Rathnaw, who Is separated from her husband and is living with her parents near Faith’s crossing, was arraigned on complaint of neigh bors. She told the Recorder she wiehed to reform, and, on her prom ises, the case was held open during her good behavior. New Pastor to Preach. The Rev.
