Deepest Well
The deepest well in the world is at Pamschow-
itz, Germany. The boring is 6,600 feet deep.
Well sinking of one sort or another is older,
than history. A laborious method was used centu
ries ago by the Chinese and Hindus, who raised
the drill a few feet at a time by means of a rope at
tache dto a lever and then let it fall by its own
weight.
Now the American system of well drilling is
used all over the world. It is noted for the com
parative simplicity of the machinery employed and
for the ingenuity displayed in overcoming all obsta
cles.
