19.—The Crackers took an uphill battle
< from the Barons, 7 to 3, here this after
noon. Molesworth’s men held the lead
until the sixth when the local* scored
two runs and tied the score.
Wallle Smith cinched the game in the
seventh inning by smashing out a home
run with two on bases.
Dent and Foxen were on the hurling
hill. The former had all the best of the
argument.
FIRST INNING.
Marcan hit In front of the plate and
beat it out for a hit. When Dent threw
wild to first Marcan reached second.
Messenger bunted to Dent and Marcan
was caught at third to Holland. Mes
senger stole second. McDonald drew
four wide ones and ambled to the initial
■ack. Kniseley slambed a one-timer
to center and Messenger tallied. Mo-
Bride fanned. Mayer also was set
down on strikes. TWO HITS, ONE
RUN.
Agler hoisted a long fly to Kniseley.
Long was disposed of by Ellam and
McGilvray. Welchonce was easy for

McGilvray lofted a tall one to Long.
Ellam drew free transportation to first.

second and when Chapman heaved the

Smith scooped up Marcan's grass-cut
ter and threw the Birmingham second-

Smith popped to Ellam. Bisland found
one to his liking and poled it to the
left garden for a single. Holland’s
short fly was easy for Kniseley. Calvo
forced Bisland at second, Ellam to

THIRD INNING.
Messenger went out over the Blsland-
Agler route. McDonald out, Dent to
Agler. Kniseley struck out. NO HITS,

Chapman ballooned to Kniseley. Dent
walked. Agler singled to center and
Dent took second. Long was patient
and was awarded with a free pass, and
the bases were intoxicated. Harry
Welchonce’s best was a grounder to
Ellam and Dent was forced at the
home plate to Mayer. Smith ended the

McBride went out, Bisland to Agler.
Mayer lined to Bisland, who let the
ball go through him for an error. Mc
Gilvray drew four wide ones and heat
it to Agler’s cushion. Ellam walked,

corporated here to promote the annual
Mid-West bowling tournament scheduled
I to begin in this city November 29.

j The fact that the tournament this
I year is open to howlers from all parts
i of the United States is expected to re-
l suit in a large entry list.
There will be a big aquatic
meet at Lakewood Wednesday aft
ernoon, starting at 3 o’clock. At
lanta’s fastest and strongest swim
mers will take part. The meet will
be held under the supervision of the
United States Life Saving Corps.
The events carded are: One-mile
relay race. 440-yard race, 100-yard
race, 50-yard race and 25-yard race
for girls. Beautiful silver cups will
be the pri*es offered in all of the
events except the girls’ race. The win
ner of that event will be given a
cutglass powder jar.
The one-mile relay race will prob
ably be the big feature. Porter Enslow
and C. R. McDermott, of Piedmont
lake, will battle Captain B. H.
Schloinberg and Lieut. Tatt Walthour
of Lakewood. This struggle should
be a hard-fought ofie from start to
finish.
There will also be a life-saving
demonstration, given by Captain
Schlomberg.
Tries to Kill Self;
Unhappily Married
SELMA, Aug. 19.—This afternoon
Mrs. Wiliam Fulner, wife of a Mont
gomery prescription clerk, shot her-
nelf in the side. She can not live,
the bullet passing entirely through
the body. She was visiting her moth
er. When asked the reason for the
rash act she answered:
*1 am not happy.”
Mrs. Fulner is a young and hand
some woman. She married Kulnef a
few months ago, after J. P. Turner
had secured a license for her mar
riage to him.
