Courthouse Sales
Prove Very Quiet
Small Crowd Attended Tuesday^
New Apartment for Ansley Park.
Piedmont Ave. Home $16,000.
Tuesday as a legal sales day at th«
county courthouse was unique in that
there were no sales. That Is, nothing
had been offered up to 11 o’clock, at
which time most of the crowd filed
away. Several sales had been adver
tised, notably a parcel on Edgewood
avenue, in the Quares estate, and two
parcels on Decatur street, between
Hilliard and Yonge streets. The
crowd was made up largely of law
yers and real estate men, and there
were few people interested in buying.
Steve R. Johnston, the well-known
auctioneer, was among those present.
“I think it is a good sign,” said he,
“that there are few sales at public
outcry. It shows that people don’t
have to sell and that the realty mar
ket is good.”
Frank L. Fleming's Apartment.
Ansley Park is soon to have its sec- 4
ond apartment house, according to
plans which Frank L. Fleming, the
well-known real estate dealer in the
Empire Building, has taken up with a
local architect. This will be located
in the park’s most exclusive section,
opposite the palatial home of Frank
Ellis, on Peachtree circle, 300 feet east
of Peachtree, and will cost $20,000.
Work is expected to start next month,
and the apartment will be ready for
occupancy January 1.
The building will be of brick, either
two or three stories high, and will con
tain from twelve to eighteen apart
ments. The lot is elevated, faces
northeast, and is 100 by 240 feet. Only
one other apartment has been erected
in Ansley Park. This is the Maryland,
at Peachtree circle and Seventeenth
street, built by Misses Mary E. and
Barbara E. Lambdin.
Home for Piedmont Avenue.

treasurer of the Southern Bell Tele
phone and Telegraph Company. i«4
building a $16,000 two-story brick
and stucco house opposite the Pied
mont Driving Club on Piedmont ave
nue. The architect is P. Thornton
Mayre, and the contractor Gude & Co.
The house is half finished. A tile roof
is one of the features.
Piedmont avenue is now almost sol
idly built up between the Driving
Club and Ponce DeLeon avenue.
Largest Renting Agency.
The John J. Woodside Company
has been designated the "largest
agency in the United States making
a specialty of renting.” Lee, Comp
ton & Patterson, real estate dealers
of San Antonio, Texas, have written
Harris G. White, president of the At
lanta Real Estate Board, referring
to the Woodside Agency in these
terms, and asking for some pointers
on how to establish a renting agency.
The Woodside concern was the first
exclusive renting agency in Atlanta,
and the first to publish a weekly
rent bulletin.
Old Church House for Rent.
The old Grace Methodist Church at
the junction of East Ellis and Hous-
ton streets and Boulevard, has been
offered for rent by a local agency
which suggests that it would make
a good manufacturing site. The con
gregation has built a new church at
the southeast corner of Highland
avenue and Boulevard, and the old
building has been remodeled. The
former location was recently used as
a laundry.
Auction of 650-Acre Farm.
A bankrupt sale of the J. J Webb
land, 65Q, acres, was held Tuesday at
Alpharetta by C. P. Gorman, trustee.
The land is a mile from Alpharetta
and is partly improved.
Inman Park Auction.
No. 20 Delta place, Inman Park, will
be sold at auction Thursday 'at 4
o’clock on the premises. This prop
erty consists of a seven-room house
and a three-room servants’ house on a
60 by 206 foot lot.
Activity in Subdivision.
Sales In Altoloma and Aitoloma
Gardens, on the Georgia Railroad and
the Stone Mountain car line near De
catur, total 153 lots, aggregating $34 -
250, according to W. P. Cole, the man
ager of the subdivision. Several new
homes have been built in this subdi
vision, and more are expected by the
time the car line is completed, about
October 1.
Scarcity of Apartment*
People returning from summer re
sorts have found it difficult In many
cases to locate desirable apartments
and the result has been that the rent
ing agents have had no trouble filling
up buildings in good neighborhood!
TTie early returners have had first
choice, and the late comers will have
to take what they can get The same
is true of good houses.
