Improvements Due
On Marietta Street
Syndicate Looking for Desirable Cor
ner—Comparison Shows Realty
Gain—Spring St. $200 a Foot.
Rea! estate announcements in the
near future are expected to include
plans for some of the handsomest
buildings in the city to be erected on
Marietta street within three blocks of
Peachtree. There are five corners
which would make splendid sites, and
It Is known that a syndicate of out-
of-town capitalists has been trying to
lease or buy one of them.
Only a short time ago half a mil
lion dollars or more for a corner was
refused, and now another syndicate Is
said to be in the market.
The DeGive and Jones properties,
comprising the block fronting on Ma
rietta, Forsyth and Broad streets and
Bijou alley, Is marked for early im
provement. The west wall of the Bi
jou Theater building, which fronts
about 100 feet on North Forsyth street.
Is due to be condemned soon because
of crumbling brick, and either a new
wall or a new building will be the
result.
Assistant Building Inspector Charles
J. Bowen has been in consultation
| with the lessee, Amos Braselton, about
, this wall, and declares that If a crack
I appears the wall will have to come
down. Shale is now about an Inch
thick and has begun to slough off,
Mr. Braselton leased the corner of
this building from the DeGlves, and It
Is understood that the lease has seven
years to run. The Atlanta Brewing
and Ice Company subleased a reur
store from Mr. Braselton, a barber
shop took a middle space, and the
tenth branch of Jacobs’ Pharmacy Is
in the corner. The frontage on Ma
rietta street, including a pool parlor, a
book store and the entrance to the
Bijou Theater, is likewise about 100
feet.
The adjoining building to the east
Is in the Jones estate, and is said to
be In litigation. This structure is
also old and due to be improved, but
Improvements can’t be made, accord
ing to a member of the Jones family,
until ownership is definitely decided.
