Lon Zachery has taken a 72-year
lease on the lot No. 382 Spring
street and has bought the house,
which belongs W. L. Saye, a col
lector for Randall Brothers, coal deal
ers, for $1,900. The consideration
was not given out. The transaction
was handled by J. E. Pritchett, of the
L. P. Bottenfield Real Estate Agency,
which concern has announced the sale
of an aggregate of $13,000 in subdi
visions, nine lots in Peachtree High
lands, two in Clairemont Park, De-
c&tur; one in Oakwood Terrace and

Work Starts on Creek.
Active work clearing out debris
from Peachtree Creek started Mon
day morning. The city has placed a
gang of laborers on the job, and they
will finish In a few days. The work
has been deemed necessary to protect
the Peachtree Creek disposal plant.
Board to Award Contract.
The local park board will meet In a
few r days to award the contract on
the $10,000 refreshment pavilion which
is to be erected at Grant Park under
plans of Hentz & Reid, architects.
The board is said to favor cream-
colored pressed brick and a green tile
roof.

The Henry H. Cabaniss home at
762 Peachtree, formerly owned and
occupied by Blanton Fortson, now* of
Athens, has increased in value ap
proximately $3,000 a year since Mr.
Cabaniss bought it five years ago. It
has been sold at $40,000 trading price
to George W. Parrott, whose real es
tate and building operations in the
pa.st few weeks have excited more
than ordinary interest.
Two months ago Mr. Cabaniss re
fused $37,500 cash for this lot, pre
ferring to hold and swap with Mr.
Parrott. Mr. Parrott gave in part
payment his home at No. 671 Pied
mont avenue, between Fifth and Sixth
streets, and it w r as Mr. Cabaniss w r ho
persuaded him to give up his plan to

MEMPHIS, TENN., Sept. 8.—Fire
men to-day discovered a deliberate
attempt had been made to burn the
new $1,000,000 Chickasaw Hotel,
which was almost complete and wa»
to have been opened October 1.
The blaze was extinguished after
considerable loss had been suffered.
The firemen say It was evident that
careful plans had been made to de
stroy all perishable contents of the
fireproof structure.
No arrests have been made.
The new Chickasaw stands at Lin
den and Main streets. It contain*
400 rooms, of which 300 are equipped
with private baths.
The Gayoso Hotel Company, which
owns and operates the Gayoso and
Peabody Hotels, is building the
Chickasaw, which Is intended to rival
the magnificence of the two others.
The opening was to have been Sep
tember 1, but delays made postpone
ment for a month necessary. L. P.

John Evans, third member of a
gang of negro highwaymen who, un
der the leadership of Gordon Bailey,
known as “Snowball,** formerly negro
elevator boy at the National Pencil
Company, and witness at the Frank
trial, held up and robbed Lon Chap
man, No. 79 Parsons street, of $46,
and Edwin Dardfen, a negro, of $2.60,
was bound over under $1,000 bond
Monday by Recorder Broyles.

negro, were bound over to a higher
court for the same offenses last week.
