Era of Prosperity
1 Seen by Gen. West
Luncheon Toastmaster Talks of the
State’s $175,00J/X)O Cotton Crop.
1 Many Realty Men at Function.
Th* l monthly luncheon of the At- :
Linta Real Estate Board occupied
most of the attention of local red j
estate men Friday. The luncheon '
, was held in the Hotel Ansley and a ■
, I large number of members attended.
General A. J. West, of the firm of'
I A. J. & H. F. West, presided as toast
i master, and made the main talk of
the afternoon.
"The money stringency of the past
few weeks is now a thing of history.”
I declared General West. “With $175,-
000.000 coming to Georgia through
her cotton crop and $950,000,000 to
' the entire South from the same prod
uct, an era is upon uh that is un
precedented I speak particularly or
fjeorgla, because in this State the
cotton crop is unusually good, and
F>robably th* 1 best in the South. When
this money Is available for use in 60
days every line of trade will benefit
greatly, and this Is quite as true of
th»- real estate business as of any
ot her.
"I bring greetings to the members
of the .Atlanta Real Estate Roar<K who
have always. stood for the best in
biisint-ss methods, and consequently
have helped so much to build up this
community. In this era of prosperity
were must co-nperate with each other
in order to get the best results, that
everyone may receive a fair share of
what is to he so generously divided.”
Harris G. White, president of the |
Atlanta Real Estate Board, was
heard in a short speech, and there
were other speakers. The question of
working for the 1916 convention of
the National Association of Real Es
tate Exchanges was brought up in
formally. and many of the real estate
men pledged themselves to work for
the meeting. The attendance at the
luncheon was the largest that the
realty’ men have ever had, and predic
tions were made that at the next
spread covers would be laid for 100.
Many Loan Deeds.
A comparatively large number of
loan deeds continues to go to record
at the county courthouse. This shows
that there is plenty of money to he I
loaned on good security, and that
confidence In real estate is somewh.U
better than It was several months
ago The Insurance companies con
tinue to be the chief lenders, although
there are many private funds at the
disposal of people who need money.
Rates have hung between 5 per cent
for large amounts and R per cent for
the smaller amounts.
A well-known dealer has SIO,OOO
which he will place on central or
semi-central property at 6 per cent.
The lender, the explains, would prefer
to have gilt-edged security rather
: than a higher rate of interest.
Ready for Auto Building,
Stores on Mrs. Henry Smith’s
property on the east side of Peach
tree, just south of Linden street, have
been razed, and the lot is now ready
for the $54,000 building to be erected
there for the two automobile tire con
cerns which have leased the building.
Not to Add Two Stories.
George W I*arrott‘s Ansley Park
apartment will be three stories and
coat $30,000. as originally planned.
: This decision was reached Thursday.
Mr. Parrott considered adding two
" stories, but has decided to let the
original plans stand. The location is
at the southeast corner of Peachtree
and Peachtree circle, in front of the
stone house of A. G. Rhodes.
Changing Residences.
George W Parrott has taken charge
of the former Cabaniss home at No.
762 Peachtree, having recently bought
from H H. C’a.banlss, and Mr. Caba
niss has moved to West Eleventh
street, where he purchased a home in
j January.
