Rufus W. Gaynor, who was with
his father when the latter died on
shipboard, left the liner and accom
panied the casket
At pier A the coffin was placed In
an automobile hearse and taken to
the Gaynor home in Brooklyn, where
Mrs. Gaynor, the widow. and her
daughters were waiting to receive it.
The ncarse was accompanied by fif
teen automobiles, carrying city offi
cials and friends of the dead execu
tive.
Private funeral service will be con
ducted at the Gaynor home, after
which the body will be taken to the
City Hall to lie In state until th<
public services in Trinh" Church on
Monday
Nearly I,OM extra chairs have been
placed in Trinity Church to accom
modate the enormous congregation at
the funeral services.
Rufus Gaynor collapsed on reaching
hl» home. When Dr. William Parish,
the family physician, arrived, he also
found It necessary to treat Mrs. Gay
nor, who was overcome with grief.
Rainey Holds Key
To Road Situation
Prison Commissioner E. Ij. Rainey
holds the deciding vote on she» ques
tion of the Prison Commisalon’s em
ploying l«tate road supervisors. He
Is out of the city and upon his re
turn In the next few days the ques
tion will be definitely settled.
Commissioner Patterson believes
the law gives the commission the
right to employ these supervisors,
and that there is great need for them.
Mr. Davison opposes the supervisor
system, owing to the lack of funds.
Macon Elks Denied
New ‘Lid’ Case Trial
MACON, Sept. 19. —A new trial has
been denied to C. R. Wright, secre
tary of the Maron Lodge of Elks, who
was convicted in the Superior Court
of violating the prohibition law by
operating the Elks’ Club, where
drinks are sold to members. A fine
of S7OO was Imposed.
Judge Mathews held that he
thought Mr Wright’s conviction was
justified by the facts and the law An
appeal will la» taken to the Supreme
Court.
