The board of missions represent
ing the Baptists of Georgia has is
sued an appeal for $200,00n. to he
used in furthering the work of the
Georgia Baptist Hospital of Atlanta.
The object is to make it one of the
most complete infirmaries in the
world, and an equal in every respect
to the great Johns Hopkins Hospital
In Baltimore
Already doing a great work, it is
planned to make the hospital most
complete and make it possible for
every ill person, whether possessed
of funds or not, to have the best
attention for medical aid to give
At the recent Georgia Baptist con
vention at Gainesville the *ia.mp
approval was placed upon this work
and « place given the hospital along
with the other great enterprises fos
tered by the denomination.
The hoaplts! dates its history
from July 2. 1902, when the Rev. l^n
G. Broughton opened It In a small
Huild ng at No. 42 Spring etreet. One
pat ent w-as entered by Dr. R R.
Kime that day. In May, 1903. the
hospital was moved to No 63 Lurkie
street and under the direction of Dr
Broughton grew- in popularity and
usefulness. In 190S the present home
of the hospital, a three-story brick
building, was erected nt No 92
Lurkie street
In March, 1913, i he hoard of mis
sions came into possession of the
hospital, acting under Instructions o f
the Georgia Baptist Convention, pay
ing the Tabernacle Baptist Churrn
$35,000 A charter was taken out for
the institution under the nama of the
Georgia Baptist Hospital
During its existence more than
6.000 patients have been treated; the
total income has been $260,000, while
mor© than 180,000 hns been spent In
the treating of charity patients
alone.
