Prophets Predict That Thriving District Will Develop—Ship ping Facilities Ample. Conspicuous 1n the movement to re establish Oglethorpe University at Silver Lake, one mile north of the Capital City Country Club, has been the ready co-operation of the real es tate men of the city. Among the do nors to the fund are Charles P. Glov er. B. P. Bottenfleld, W. E. Worley, the Chamblee Realty and Improvement Company, Charlton Barrett and oth ers. Some of these developers own land in the vicinity, but they have entered into the donations with more than a commercial spirit. Others own no land. The Oglethorpe campaign will mark the climax of a fight which Chamblee long has waged to get into or close to Atlanta. The Chamblee citizens are striving to build up a solid line be tween the Capital City Country Qud and their town, and they regard Ogle thorpe University and the Silver Lake Estates as the-connecting link. Once there is a community around Silver Bake, property value* at Chamblee will double. When Dr. H. J 4 Gaertner went about Chamblee canvassing for sub scriptions to the Oglethorpe fund, he did not encounter a single refusal. The people “shelled out” a total of $3,200, which is considered unusual for a place as small as Chamblee. Canvassing committees have been named and have begun active work over the city, and they expect to make a blowing report at the end of a week in the race for $250,000. Thomasville Bean Holds Mighty Vine THOMASVILLE, Nov. 29.—There have been all sorts of reports from time to time of the wonderful growth attained by the velvet bean, but it is left to Manager Hadley, of the Thomas ville Weather Bureau, to beat all con testants, his bean being almost as much of a grower as the celebrated one of “Jack and the Beanstalk” variety. Earmarks of a new wholesale sec tion are developing in the Terminal Station district, according to well- informed real estate prophets. Thi* district will be to the wholesaler* what the Union Depot district will soon be to the produce merchants, be cause It is In the three-quarter-mil* radius and has shipping facilities that are unexcelled. Some idea of the future of the sec tion will be afforded this week when the directors of the Investment Com pany of the South BMt and decid* what is best to do with the six-storv building which they will axwot on 4 Nelson street and the A., B. and ’ Southern and Central Railways. Thl* building will have 76,000 square feet of floor space, and a large concern wants every foot of the space. Th* investment company, however, ha* been dickering with a score of whole salers, and now the proposition is whether or not to turn down the of fer and proceed under the original plan. If the big concern gets the building the company will have to provide for other prospective tenants on addi tional property which it owns in the neighborhood. It owns 1,800 feet of frontage on Walker. Haynea, Nelaom streets and Rradberry alley, part of which property has been made avail able to the railroads through th* erection of service tracks which are independent of each other. A jobber in this location. It is pointed out, has the advantage not only of three railroads, but of ex- . presa and pare*] post stations in th* % neighborhood as well. For dlstribu- 1 tlon over the city, he has the Nelson, Peters and Mitchell streets viaducts. Want W, Peachtree Raised 8 1-2 Feet West Peachtree street is due to b*. raised an additional four feet, ac cording to announcement of the com mittee of the West Peachtree Im provement Club, and this will make a All of eight and one-half feet at Hunnlcutt street. This Improvement has necessitated the raising of houses in the neigh borhood, a conspicuous example be ing the three two-story apartment houses and adjoining store of A. C. Bampkin. This work was done by W. C. Pease, house mover, without a „ crack in the brick of apartments or I store. Vour hundred Jackscrews and ten carloads of cribbing were required for the job. Mr. Bampkin and others are in favor of raising the street an additional four feet, and in this event Mr. Pease w411 do the lifting again. Arbor Day Date Is Dec. 5 at Way cross WAYCROSS. Cox, is busy conduct ing a thorough investigation of al leged freight rate discriminations. For a number of years it has been claim ed that Waycross has faced unjust discrimination, local merchants being unable to compete with merchants of other places in this section.
