Georgia.”
The women laughed at Mr. Hard

"You permit everybody to vote ex

She was arrested by Federal officers.
"Wasn’t that an exercise of the
power of the Congress In this mat

"Now, I am sorry,” he replied, “that

Representative Hardwick suggested
that a committee ».f the House, the

to handle the question of woman's
suffrage
“Would you like to call it.” asked
Representative Henry, "the Uomm’t-

Dr. Shaw said she would be willing
to do that, possibly; that she won! I
consult with fellow suffragists and
advise the Rules Committee later.
"We do not want our bills sent to
a dead committee, a committee that

Movement for University Gains
With Rapidity of Gigantic
Snowball Rolling on Hill,
Tho Oglethorpe University move
ment is progressing like a giant snow
ball In Atlanta, growing larger with
every turn.
The subscriptions gained Tuesday
exceeded those of Monday, and long
before t.he noonday luncheon meet
ing a? the Piedmont Hotel Wednes
day It was evident that Tuesday’s
mark would be surpassed.
That means that an average of
$10,000 a day, or even more, Is being
attained, and the continuance of that
ratio will realize the quarter-million
mark before the year ends.
The leaders are thrilled with the
prospects.
"This Isn’t my first Job of this kind,”
said Dr. Thorn well Jacobs Wednes
day morning "I’ve been in a half a
dozen big campaigns for similar pur
poses but I never have seen another
go with the rush of this on*
People Are Aroused.
"This I ascribe to the unusually
dep interest on the part of the At
lanta people, to the grandeur of the
prize, and to the fact that, in a way,
the honor of the commercial capital
of the Southeast Is at stake.
"It Is no exaggeration to say that
millions of people have their eyes on
Atlanta this week. It is needless to
add that Atlanta is going to win
another great victory.”
Another fine thing about the Ogle
thorpe campaign, the way the lead
ers see It, Is that all classes of At
lantans are engaged In th" work of
refoundlng the grand old university.
It Isn’t that all professions, all busi
nesses, and all denominations and
creeds are represented In the sub
scription list—that is a fine thing 'n
itself. But all classes of persons,
financially considered, are taking their
stand .is founders of the uni -
for the man who gives $5 or less, in
accordance with what he can afford,
is Just ns truly a founder, and his
contribution Is just as truly welcome
as the man who gives his $1,000 or
more.
After Old Subscriber*.
The committees working under the
general direction of Chairman Ivan
E. Allen are devoting most of their
time at present to securing renewals
of subscriptions to the old university
fund. They are meeting practically
no refusals, and In many instances
the old subscriptions are being dou
bled.
There will he an important meeting
of the executive committee of the
movement, of which Captain James
W. English Is chairman, at Captain
English's office at 3:30 o’clock. The
