Ordinance Regulating Taxi Rates
and Turner Charges Also Con
sidered by Committees.
T'aee committees of the * ’»tv
Council will meet Thursday aft- r-
noon in an effort to take some conclu
sive action on matters of far-reach
ing importance
The investigating committee hope*
to determine its report on the “graft
charges against City Electrician It. 1
Turner. The Aldermanlc Board, act
ing as a committee, will hold a public
hearing on the new traffic ordinance
and der ide upon a recommendation i"
Council. The Ordinance Commit!. *•
will give final consideration to a bill
regulating taxicab fares.
The taking of testimony in the Tur
ner •graft’’ investigation Is compb; •
Turner has admitted receiving $ 10
and a gold watch from electrical con
tractors, but he claims that it was
for the purpose of paying off his in
debtedness incurred by his campaign
for election. The feature of the close
of this hearing will be the argument
of Attorney Aldine Chambers, who
declares that he has proved Turner a
• grafter.” and who will re* ite to the
committee what he claims to be cb-.ir
grounds for impeachment.
Council is perplexed over the n *»
Daffl* law that would stop the park
ing of automobiles In the downtown
auction for more than SO minutes at •»
time, and wquld prohibit pedestrians*
from crossing streets* except at cor
ners. Society women who drive their
machines and doctors* who leave their
< ar.« in the street during their office
hours* are vigorous protesters again-1
the parking provision of the law. mul
they are causing considerable trouble
to those wln> want to relieve congest
ed conditions.
A law strictly regulating taxicab
charges will be recommended by tin*
Ordinance (’ommittee, but taxicab
owners declare that the proposed
rate* are too low. The committee
will determine these rates at tb
meeting Thursday afternoon and paas
an ac t requiring them to be posted *n
the inside of ever> taxicab and auto
mobile that is for rent. Under the
present law taxicab owners are al
lowed to charge what they choose.

Christmas day is getting nearer and
nearer. Have >ou «ele< ted that pres

have you chosen the gif' which you
intend to present to your huaband?
I am very much in favor of the idea
of shopping early In the holiday sea-
eon. I ha\e advocated it for years. 1
believe married folks should get their
(’hrlstmtis presents ahead of time.
Don't wait until the Inst minute. If
you do, you are sure to select the

reasons so many inappropriate gifts
are given everv Christmas. I’rn sure

amounts to a great deal of worry.
You want to give the best pres**it,
don’t you? Of course you do. We
all do. That Is the spirit of Christ

ent ? That's the question w hich bet -
era a good many people every year.
And that Is the reason I asked the
married readers of The (Georgian to
write me telling what THEY thought
the best present for a wife to give her

All of our diamonds are weighed and graded by an
