WHAT IS THE BEST

THE BIG QUESTION
A FINE BABY BOY.
Mian Mary Lea Davis:
To my mind the most useful an<l
appreciated Christmas gift that a
wife can give her husband Is a fin"

many more -that they may, as the
years go by. enjoy the pleasure of
Christmas leaning on these sub
stantial gifts of their youth.

Christmas day Is getting nearer and
nearer. Have you selected that pres
ent for your wife? If you are a wife,
have you chosen the gift which you
intend to present to your husband?
I am very much in favor of the idea
of shopping early In the holiday se i-
son. I have advocated It for years. 1

Don’t wait until the last minute (f
you do, you are lure to select tin

reasons so many Inappropriate gifts
are given every Christmas. I’m sure
of it.
The problem Is a serious one. it
amounts to a great deal of worry.
You want to give the best prese it.
don’t you? Of course you do. We
all do That ts the spirit of Christ
mas time. Hut what IS the best pres
ent? That's the question which both
ers a good many people every year.
And that Is the reason I asked the
married readers of The Georgian to
write me telling what THEY thought
the best prea»*»t for a wife to give her
husband and for n husband to give
his wife I wanted the experience of
others to be of real benefit to those
who are now worrying over the prob

BIBLE AND GOOD WISHES.
Miss Mary Lea Davis:
1 can’t think of anything that
would appeal to a husband’s bet
ter self more than for his wife to
remember him on Christmas
morning with the Bible as her
gift, with its many comforting
passages and promises to sustain
him the new year She might
accompany this with some needy
1 article made with her own hands,
and with much love and confi
dence wish him Joy and cheer.

Mr. Ellery is to reach Atlanta Fri

“Star Matinee” that afternoon at
whiofN his band is to play, at the
Atlanta Theater in behalf of the
Empty Stocking Fund.
The famous band is to be heard in
a series of concerts at the Auditorium
under the auspices of the Music Fes

nounced. the school children of At

matinee concerts on Monday. Tues
day, Wednesday and Thursday

of the children will attend on each
of the Hrst three days, the fourth
matinee being open to the negro
school children.
The opening concert will take
place next Friday night, with tickets
on sale at the door. The Music Fes
tival Association assures the public
that the Ellery engagement is to be
one of the notable events of the sea
son.
In Nashville, in fact, such a furor
was created by the wonderful con
certs given by the hand that after
hearing the series of six perform
ances. special permission was extend
ed by the city for tjvo more concerts
on Sunday, the night concert at 9
o’clock being largely attended by
church-goers, who went to the con
cert directly from the churches.
A SON AND HEIR.
Mihm Mary I^ca Davis:
I think the most suitable present
for the occasion wou’d be for every
woman to present her husband a
baby boy on Christmas morn, as
that is the day of Christ’s birth.
One other suggestion is a nice
memorandum book for each day in
the year. MRS. E. M P.

Three committees of he kity
Council p ill meet Thursday after
noon in an effort to take some conclu
sive action on matters of far-reach
ing importance.
The investigating committee hoi**
to determine its report on the “graft”
charges against City Electrician R. C.
Turner. The Aldermanic Board, act
ing as a committee, will hold a public
hearing on the new traffic ordinance
and decide upon a recommendation to
c ouncil. The Ordinance Committee
will give final consideration to a bill
regulating taxicab fares.
The taking of testimony in the Tur
ner “graft” investigation is complex
Turner has admitted receiving $520
and a gold watch from electrical con
tractors, but he claims that it was
for the purpose of paying off his in
debtedness Incurred by his campaign
for election. 'The feature of the close
of this hearing will be the argument
of Attorney Aldine Chambers, who
declares that he has proved Turner a
grafter.” and who will recite to the
committee what he claims to he clear
grounds for impeachment.
Council Is perplexed over the new
traffic law that would stop the park
ing of automobiles In the downtown
section for more than 20 minutes at a
time, and would prohibit pedestrian*
from crossing streets except at cor
ners Society women who drive their
machines and doctors who leave their
.*rs n the street during their office
hours are vigorous protesters against
the parking provision of the law. tnd
they are causing considerable trouble
to those who want to relieve congest
ed conditions.
A la\v strictly regulating taxicab
charges will be recommended by the
< irdinance Committee, but taxicab
owners declare that the proposed
rates are too low. The committee,
will determine these rates at the
meeting Thursday afternoon and pass
an act requiring them to be posted on
the inside of every taxicab and auto
mobile that is for rent Under the
present law taxicab owners are al
lowed to charge what they choose.
HIS PERSONAL TASTE.

Miss Mary Lett Davis:
During the fifteen years of our
married life 1 have always given
to mf husband gifts that were
for his comfort and pleasure, al
ways feeling that they were need
ed. and that he would enjoy
them. This year I shall rpake for
him four pairs of slumber slip

he always enjoyed them. I will
also make a cushion for his office

thing that he needs the worst at

Unless you arc a diamond expert you naturally have
to depend upon the integrity of your dealer when you pur

What is still more important, you have to trust to his

All of our diamonds arc weighed and graded by an
