MILS VV. R. 8.
By MARY LEA DAVIS.
Christmas day is getting nearer and
nearer. Have you selected that pres
ent for your wife? If you arc a wif*,
have you chosen the gift which you
Intend to present to your husband?
I am very much in favor of the Idea
of shopping early in the holiday set-
son. I have advocated it for years. 1
believe married folks should get their
Christmas presents ahead of time.
Don’t wait until the last minute. If
you do. you are sure to select the
wrong thing. That is one of the main
reasons so many inappropriate gifi*
are given every Christmas. I'm sure
of it.
The problem Js a serious one. It
amounts to a great deal of worry.
You want to give the best pres*- it,
don't you? Of course you do. We
all do That Is the spirit of Christ
mas time. But what IS the best pres
ent? That’s the question which both
ers. a good many people every year.
And that is the reason I asked the
married readers of The Georgian ;o
write me telling what THEY thought
the best present for a wife to give her
husband and for a husband to give
Ids wife I wanted the experience of
others to be of real benefit to those
who are now worrying over the prob
lem.
HERE IS MY OFFER.
To the wife who writes the heat
short letter telling what is tin-
most useful gift for a husband, one,
$10 gold piece.
Three a wants of To each will
he given the wires whose letters
are adjudged the ne.rt best.
Also, I will award the same
prizes to husbands who write brief
let tun outlining the most appro
priate gift fot a husband to give
his wife. For the husband’s letter
that is adjudged the best the writer
trill receive a $10 gold piece. Hus
bands who write the three ne.rt best
letters will receive, inch, a $5 gold
piece for their thorough m ss.
Send your letters addressed to

BIBLE AND GOOD WISHES.
Miss Mary Lea. Davis:
I can’t think of anything that
would appeal to a husband’s bet
ter self more than for his wife to
remember him on Christmas
morning with tlie Bible as her
gift, with its many comforting
passages and promises to sustain
him the new year. She might
accompany this with some needy
article made with per own hands,
and with much love and confi
dence wish him Joy and cheer.

A SON AND HEIR
Miss .Mary I>*a Davis:
I think the most suitable present
for the occasion would be for every
woman to present her husband a
baby boy on Christinas morn, as
that is the day of Christ’s birth.
One other suggestion is a nice
memorandum book for each day in
the year. MRS. E. M R

Three committee* of the City
Council will meet Thursday after
noon in an effort to take some conclu
sive action on matters of far-reach
ing importance.
The Investigating committee hope*
to determine its report on the "graft”
charges against City Electrician R. C.
Turner. The Aldermanic Board, act-
mg as a committee, will hold a public
hearing on the new traffic ordinance
and decide upon a recommendation t*»
Council. The Ordinance Commltt, <
will give final consideration t » a bill
regulating taxicab fares.
The taking of testimony In the Tur
ner "graft” investigation Is cornplc •
Turner has admitted receiving $520
and a gold watch from electrical con
tractors, nut he claims that it was
for the purpose of paying off his in
debtedness incurred by his campaign
for election. The feature of the close
• if this hearing will be the argument
of Attorney Aldine Chambers, who
declares that he has proved Turner a
grafter.” and who will recite to the
committee what he claims to be clear
grounds for impeachment.
Council is perplexed over the n? >v
traffic law that would stop the park
ing of automobiles In the downtown
section for more than 3ft minutes at a
time, and would prohibit pedestrians
from crossing streets except at cor
ners. Society women who drive their
machines and doctors who leave their
ear* in the street during their office
hours are vigorous protesters against
the parking provision of ^hc law. mil
they are causing considerable trouble
to those who want to relieve congest
ed conditions.
A law strictly regulating taxicab
harges will be recommended by the
<>rdini*ncc Committee, but taxicab
owner* declare that the proposed
rates are too low. Tne committee
will determine these rate* at the
meeting Thursday afternoon and pass
an act requiring them to be posted >n

mobile that is for rent. Under the
present law taxicab owners are al
lowed to charge what they choose.
HIS PERSONAL TASTE.
Miss Mary Lea Davis.
Let the husband’s Christinas
souvenir be suited to his
personal taste and need. Your
real gift should be a heart
full of love and a helping
hand. Clothe him again as you
first saw him. In ail the beauti
ful, manly virtues. If they no
longer fit. spread over him a man
tle of charity, pity and forgive
ness. Give him your hand and
make another brave, prayerful
pull to lift him up. MRS. VV. F.

FOR HIS COMFORT.
Miss Mary Lea Davis:
During the fifteen years of our
married life I have always given
to my husband gifts that were
for his comfort and pleasure, al
ways feeling that they were need
ed. and that he would enjoy
them. Tibs year I shall make for
him four pairs of slumber .slip

he always enjoyed them. I will
also make a cushion for his office
chair. As his old fountain pen
has failed, 1 hope to be able to
