hearing on the new traftlc ordinance
and decide upon a recommendation t.,

will give final conalderatlop to a bill
regulating -axlcab fares
The taking of testimony In the Tur
ner "graft” investigation is , ompie:.-
Turner has admitted receiving J'.-’O

tractors, but he claims that It was
for the purpose of paying "ff his In

section for more than 30 minutes at a
time, and would prohibit pedestrian#

ChrUtmuR day Is getting nearer and
nearer Have you nelgcted that pres
ent for your wife? If you Are a wife,
have you choaen the gift which you
Intend to present to your husband?
I am very much In favor of the idea
of shopping early in the holiday sea
son. I have advocated it for year*. I
believe married folks should get their
Christmas presents ahead <*f time
Don’t wait until the last minute. If
you do. you are sure to select the
wrong thing. That Is one of the main
reasons pproprlats I ■
are given every Christmas. I'm sure
of If.
The problem Is a serious one. It
amounts to a great deal of worry.
You want to give the best nrea«* it,
don't you? Of course you do We
all do. Tlmt is the spirit of Christ
mas time Rut what IS the best pres
ent? That's the question whfeh both
ers a good many people every year.
And that is the reason I asked the
married readers of The Georgian to
write me telling what THEY thought
the best present for a wife to give her
husband and for a husband to give
his wife. I wanted the experience of
others to be of real benefit to those
who are now worrying over the prob
lem.
HERE IS MY OFFER.
To the. wife who writes the brut
short letter telling irhat 1* the
most useful gift for a husband, one
9 JO gold piece.
Three awards of $. r i each will
be given the wives who*' letters
arc adjudged the next best.
\lso, I will award the same
prizes to husbands who write brief
letters outlining the most appro
priate gift fryt a husband to give
his wife. For the husband's letter
that is adjudged the best the writer
will receive a $10 gold piece. Hus
bauds irho write, the three next, best
tetters will receive, each, a $5 gold
piece for their thoroughness,
fiend pour letters addressed to

Here are some letters just received.
BIBLE AND GOOD WISHES
Miss Mary Lea Davis:
1 can’t think of anything that
would appeal to a husband's bet
ter self mole than fordils wife to
remember him on f'hrlstmaa
morning with the Bible as her
gift, with Its many comforting
passages and promises to sustain
him the new year. She might
accompany this with some needy
article made with her own hands,
and with much love and confi
dence wish him Joy and cheer.
Stephens, Oa, MRS. H. H.
SOME SOFT SHIRTS.
Miss Mary Lea Davis-:
A couple of soft shirts, to wear
when a fellow doesn't care to be
"spruced up," and a white tucked
bosom linen shirt for formal wear,
all made by a wife's own hands,
is mv suggestion for a '"hrlstmas
gift MRS. M. A. R.

COLLAR AND TIE BOX.
Miss Mary Lea Davis:
I think the nicest and moat use
ful gift for a husband would be a
box with a lid to it, covered with
some nice material and lined in
side with a place for his collars,
ties and collar buttons, with some,
nice ribbon of same color of cov
ering to hang by where he dress
es. This would enable him to
know' where to find his things
«uid he would appreciate the
thoughtful wife for making it for
him. MRS. L. L.
Athens. Ga.
SOMETHING HE NEEDS.
Miss Mary Lea Davis
T think the most useful gift for
a wife to give her husband is the
thing that he needs the w’orat at
the time she gives the present. Tf
he needs a thing he is sure to
appreciate it more than anything
else, for married people do not
have money to spend for things
they don’t really need.
Atlanta, Ga. MRS. P L. IT
CHECK AND SUBSCRIPTION.
Miss Mary' Lea Davis:
I think the most acceptable
Christmas gift for husband would
be a $25 check and a year's sub
scription to The Georgian and
Runday American. Be optimistic
under all circumstances, and don't
object to his smoking all the
cigars he receives as Ghristmas
gifts. . MRH W. R S.

SAVING HIS CREDIT.
Miss Mary Lea Davis:
The most appreciated gift that
wife could give to her husband Is
the assurance that she has not
purchased gifts galore on a
"charge’' h;isls to embarrass him
after the festive season Is over.
Macon, Ga. MRH. D. P.
HIS PERSONAL TASTE.
Miss Mary Lea Davis:
lx*t tile husband’s Dhrlstmas
souvenir be suited to his
persons! taste and need. Your
real gift should be a heart
full of love and a helping
hand. Clothe him again an you
first saw him, in all the beautl
ful, manly virtues. If they no
longer fit. spread over him a man
tle of charity, pity and forgive
ness. Give him your hand and
make another brave, prayerful
pull to lift him up MRS. W. F.
New nan, Ga.
FOR HIS COMFORT
Miss Mary Lea Davis
During the fifteen years of our
married life 1 have always given
to my husband gifts that were
for his comfort and pleasure, al
ways feeling that they were need
ed, and that lie would enjoy
them This year I shall make for
him four pairs of .slumber slip
pers; the; old ones are worn, and
he always enjoyed them. I will
also make a cushion for his office
< hair Am his old fountain pen
has failed, I hope to be able to
replace It with a new one. T al
ways give within my means. I
Just put a lot of love in with the
stitches and he always appreci
ates my efforts, great or small.
Winder. Ga. MRS. M. H. R.
SAVED FOR HIS GIFT.
Miss Merv Lea Davis:
If I take the money my hus
band has earned to buy him a
Christmas present. I feel that he
has bought it: so I saved during
the year and am going to buy him
six nice shirts and a set of cuff
buttons. MRS. O. A. K.
A TRIP BACK “HOME.”
Miss Mary Lea' Davis:
1 am a clerk at a very moder
ate salary. My wife thinks that
the time will never come when
she will lie able to visit her folks
in North Georgia. Ho by denying
myaelf many lLtle things neces
sary to a man's comfort I will
surprise her with a round-trip
ticket to see the “old" folks at
"home’’ once again, her dearest

W here Weights and Grades
Are Guaranteed
I'nlpss you are a diamond expert you naturally have
to depend upon the integrity of your dealer whon you pur
chase them.
What is still more important, you have to trust to his
knowledge and skill in grading diamonds. Hardly any
two dealers grade diamonds tdike. A jeweler may be ab
solutely honest and reliable and still not have the nec
essary skill to correctly grade them according to stand
ard classifications.
All of our diamonds arc weighed and graded by an
expert who has had over 26 years' experience with us
alone. All grades and weights are guaranteed. Each
stone bears a tag on which is marked in plain figures its
exact weight, quality and the lowest price at which we can
sell it.
We send selections b.\ prepaid express to reliable peo
ple, anywhere, to prove that our grades and prices are
right.
Liberal deferred payment plans are allowed to those
who prefer to buy that way.
Diamonds make ideal Christinas gifts.
