COUNCIL TIKES
WHAT IS THE BEST
PRESENT? THAT IS
THE BIG QUESTION
Ordinance Regulating Taxi Rates
and Turner Charges Also Con
sidered by Committees.
Thr*e commlttws of thf* City
Council will meet Thursday after
noon In an effort to take some conclu
sive action on matter* of far-roacb-
lng Importance
The investigating committee hope*
to determine its report on the "graft*’
charges against City Klertrirlan H <\
Turner. The Aldermanlc Board, act
ing as a committee will hold a public
hearing on the new traffic ordinan* °
and decide upon a recommendation t.>
t'ouncil. The Ordinance Commute «•
will give final consideration t . a hill
regulating taxicab fares
The taking of testimony in the Tin
ner "graft” investigation D < ompb r .
Turner has admitted receiving
and a gold watch from ele.-trlcal con
tractors, but he claims that it was
for the purpose of paying off bis in
dehtednes* incurred by his - ampAigr.
for election. The feature of the close
of this hearing will be the argument
of Attome> Aldine I’hambers. who
declares that he has proved Turner a
'grafter." and who will recite to the
•ommlttee what he claims to be clear
grounds for Impeachment.
Council Is perplexed over the na*v
traffic law that would stop the park
mg of automobiles In the downtown
section for more than .10 minutes at .1
time, and would prohibit pedestrians
from crossing streets except at cor
ners. Society women who drive their
machines and doctors wh<> lea\e their
cars in the street during their office
hours arc vigorous protester** against
the parking provision of the law mil
they are causing considerable trouble
to those who want to relieve congest
ed conditions.
A law strictly regulating taxicab
chargee will be recommended by the
1 *rdlnance Committee. blit taxicab
owners declare that the proposed
rates are loo low The committee
will determine these rates at the
meeting Thursday afternoon and pass
an act requiring them to be pouted on
the 1n*ide of every taxicab and auto
mobile that is for rent. Hnder the
present Ihw taxicab owners are al
lowed to charge whatt they choose.

\nd that is the reason 1 asked the
married readers of The (Georgian to
write me telling what THEY thought
ttie heat preset)t for a wife to give her
husband and for a huabend to give
his wife. I wanted the experience of
others to be of real benefit to those
who are now worrying over the prob

BIBLE AND GOOD WISHES.
Miss Mary Lea Davi*
1 can't think of anything that
would appeal to a husband's bet
ter self more than for his wife to
remember him on Christmas
morning with the Bible as her
gift, with Its many comforting
passages and promises to sustain
him the new year. Rhe might
accompany thia with some needy
article made with her own hands,
and with much love and confi
dence wish him Joy and cheer.

else, for married people do not
have money to spend for things
they don’t really need
