Prisoners nt the police station did not
learn until Tuesday morning that the
city prison had been afire Monday
night. Croat excitement was caused by
th** blaze and every downtown company
of the tire department responded to the
alarm, wi.il/* a great, crowd gathered.
The blaze started In an anteroom of
the detective deportment on the third
floor, a box filled with newspapers
catching fire from a gas heater. The
door to the room was closed, and when
It was opened by one of the attaches of
the department a great cloud of smoke
burst forth. The blaze was exl ingulshed
before the arrival of the firemen.

gynecologists from all parts of Amer
ica, the Southern Surgical Associa
tion opened its twenty-sixth annual
convention at the Georgian Terraco

afternoon. It Is expected that many
thousand girls and boys will be at

will be Gounod's "Faust ' and "Mig-
non." Tickets will be distributed at
the schools free to the / hildren.
Adults will be charged the regular
admission price of 25 cents.
The free concert Monday afternoon
