There are two sides to the little af

that Miss Tejnpest seems Just young
enough not to know that a vaudeville
gallery Is Incorrigible, and will laugh
and will whistle and will jeer at the
very momenta when to behave so i*
not the most delicate thing in the
world.
However, the gaucherle or gaurh-
eries marred for the matinee au
dience the best thing of the wfpek’n
vaudeville bill. Miss Tempest is a
petite young woman who dances well
and has some new songs and is alto
gether presentable and attractive.
The act Is elaborately staged, and
Miss Tempest’s two young men part
ners are capable.
There was no hitch to spoil the en
joyment of those assembled over the
pure burlesque of Edwin Stevens and
Tina Marshall in their interpretation
of Romeo and .Juliet as they think it
should be.
Tin- Carl Eugene troupe, a small
army of acrobats, have one of the
l*est acts of its kind seen In Atlanta
this season, and their sensational
tumbling holds most of the audience,
as It should.
If grown-up folks can ever sin
cerely enjoy animal performers
which is doubtful —they can like Ani

trained and seeming intelligent as
any animals here for some time,
hardly excepting even Miss Orford's
elephants.

Scores Usual Success.
Emma Hunting has her hundreds,
her very loyal hundreds, who are
ready to applaud her Indiscriminate
ly, no matter what her role, whether
her costume be petticoat:- or trousers.
And you couldn’t tell them anything
except that she is as good as any
actress.
A big pnrt of the loyal following
turned out Monday night to see Miss
Hunting in “The Girl From Out Yon
der." a conventional drama, at the
Lyric
Mi * Hunting depends for her ap-

this week. Am Flotsam, the Girl from
out Yonder, she wears the yellow
rubber coat and trousers of a fisher
man part of the time, and there is
plenty of opportunity for the bar
carole laugh of hers, and for the
quavery tear signal. And the women,
who predominated in the audience,
adored her afresh,
“The <iirl From Out Yonder" Is a
stage piece with a rather honorable
career. Adelaide Thurston is one
who played it several years ago. Mias
Hunting has a relatively capable sup

man lover, and George Whitaker, as
the urban lover, and Sam C. Miller,

who have the greatest opportunity.
“The Girl From Out Yonder" will

“The Denver Express"
Thrills Big Crowd.
“The Denver KxpresH,’’ a spectacu
lar melodrama, was presented by the
Jewell Kelley Company at the Bijou
last night to an audience which filled
every sent in the theater. The play
was received with enthusiasm.
This week’s offering is one of the
famous Holden Brothers’ productions.
It is full of thrills Every member
of the company has a good part and
all the old favorites scored hits. Ver
non Wallace, the leading man, and
Kdwfn Vail appeared to splendid ad
vantage in parts for which they ar-/
eminently fitted.
Farl Higley, as Tommy Tucker,
was responsible for much of the fun
of the evening. Oscar Hoes, T. O.
McDonough, Hoy Butler, Miss Lilian
!>o"~hiss» Miss Clare Summers and
Miss Alice Hall were well received.
Miss Rose Morris won many new
friends by her capable acting, and
|la.by Boss was a favorite from her
first appearance.

Governor May Prosecute by Jan
uary 12—Order Violation In
volves Fine of $5,000.
Eight railroads operating In Georgia
have been ordered by the Hiate Rail
road Commission to show cause by j
January 12, 1914. why the Governor
should not be asked to bring suit
against them for a violation of Order
No. 14, constituted by the withdrawal
of their interchangeable mileage
books.
This order was announced After an
executive session lasting practically
all of Monday. Under the law, the
maximum penalty is a fine of $..,000
against the railroads for each viola
tion of a ruling of the commission.
The violation in this instance was
put fhrth as being a change in tariff
without first submitting the change
to the commission for its approval.
The railroads named in the order
had given notice that after December
17 they would discontinue inter
changeable mileage books. This fol
lowed the judgment of the Supreme
Court upholding the order of the com
mission requiring roads to pull mile
age on trains.
The commission was divided three
to two on the original order, and it is
understood that there also was a di
vision as to the question of whether
the order nad been violated.
The roads coming under the cen
sure o f the commission are the
Southern, the Central of Georgia, the
Seaboard, the A , R. and A., the Geor
gia, the Macon, Dublin and Savan
nah. the Georgia and Florida, and the
Wrlghtsvllle and Tennille.
LIFE TERM FOR SLAYING.
