paper which was enjoyed by all present

ing Mrs. Alex W. Bealer, the president,
gave the class litany.
The Auction Bridge Club held Us last
meeting at the home of Airs. C. F. Cole
man. The invited guests were Aliss
Frankie Fielder, Miss Kyle Arthur, Aliss
Mittie Harrell, Airs. R. S. Stinson. Mrs.
James Bishop. A salad course with hot
coffee was served.
A marriage which was a surprise to
their many friends was that of Alias
Florrie Wade and Terry Batchelor,
which took place at the home of the
groom’s father, R. C. Batchelor, on Mon
day, the ceremony being performed by
the Rev. Alex W. Bealer, of the First
Baptist Church of Eastman. Mr.

Patterson was hostess to the reg
ular meeting of the Once-a-Week
Bridge Club, entertaining the members
ol that club most delightfully. Bridge
was played at four tables and the high
est score was made by Miss Alary Con
verse, who was presented with a shop
ping list. The consolation prize, a box
o f Pretty handkerchiefs, fell to Miss
Julie Winn Varnedoe.
A marriage of considerable interest in
this county was solemnized Sunday
evening at the home of Judge S. AT
\ arnedoe, when Aliss Quincy Moody, of
Dasher, was married to Frank Herndon,
of Madison County, Fla. Immediately
after the ceremony the couple left for
Cairo to visit relatives.
One of the prettiest holiday enter
tainments was the Christmas tree given
to Master Clarence Staten and his little
sister, Frances Kline Staten, at the
home of Judge and Mrs. B. F. Whit
tington Tuesday afternoon. There were
about 50 little folk present.
The Christmas tree which was given
at the River Street Chapel was one of
the prettiest of the week here. There

received gifts.
The Junior League of the Alethodist
Church had a pound party Tuesday

Sunday schools enjoyed Christmas trees
this week. The teacher of the Metho
dist class, Airs. R. Lee Miller, gave her
pupils a Christmas entertainment and
tree Wednesday afternoon, when Santa
Claus distributed gifts, each child being
remembered. Mrs. J. O. Persons, teach
er of the class at the Baptist Church,
gave her pupils a tree on Thursday aft -
ernoon in the Sunday school department
of the church, when each one of the 130
children in the class was given a pres
ent off the big tree.

most enjoyable affairs of the
week was the auction bridge
party given last night by Mr. and Airs.
John G. Steinhelmer in honor of Air. and
Mrs. Robert J. Murphy, of Fort Smith.
Ark. Mr. and Mrs. Steinhelmer will
entertain also at auction next Alonday
and Wednesday evenings.
For Airs. J. Lester Sweat, who leaves
Wavcross early in January for her new-
home in Texas, Airs. Joseph I^ee Parker
entertained with an elaborate reception
Tuesday afternoon. It was one of the
