Romance of Two Years Ends as
Georgia Girl Becomes Bride
of Ensign Simpson.

One of the most romantic features

date of the wedding, which already
ad been set. He was permitted to
return on a furlough procured by his
fiancee, who went straight to Secre-
ary of the Navy Daniels with her re
quest.
Among the interesting and brilliant
entertainments for the couple was a
beautiful dance and tea Monday on
: no President’s yacht, the Mayflower.
Later at luncheon they were guests
of Major and Mrs. Earl D. A. Pearce,
the hostess being assisted by her
mother, Mrs. James R. Gray, of At-
inta. About 40 guests were present.

freight solicitor at Charlotte, and W.
R. O’Hara will have the same office
in Jacksonville. All the newly ap
pointed officials" are Southerners.
TO BEGIN SEWER SYSTEM.
SAVANNAH, Dec. 30.—L. Sigretto,
the New York contractor, who was
awarded the contract for the $600,000
house and storm water drainage sys
tem in Savannah, arrived to-day. He
announced that he would begin work
within the next few days.

The instrument needs no mast or
antennae, but if brought in contact
v ith a metallic surface it enables the
listener in Paris to hear the time
signal from the Eiffel Tower.

Most Lavish Entertainment
in City’s History,
MACON. Dec. 30.— The most lavish
social affair in the history of Macon
was tlje dance given at the Dempsey
Hotel last night and this morning by
Mr. and Mrs* Emory Winship, of San
Francisco and Macon It cost jus*
$8,000.
Two entire floors of the hotel were
rented for the use of the guests, who
numbered between 300 and 400. The
two ballrooms were, also required. One
orchestra played from 7 to 12, when
the banquet was served, and then an
other played until 5 o'clock this morn
ing. when the dancers partook of
breakfast. The ballrooms were ex
quisitely decorated. There were 7,000
American Beauty roses, costing $1,800,
and orchids and rare flowers brought
from the North. Favors costing about
$10 each were given the guests.
Intimations of the unprecedented
elegance of the affair had been given,
and last night immense crowds gath
ered about the Dempsey, hoping to
see. first hand, if the reports were
true Macon society was represented
In full, and there were also a numb r
of out-of-town guests, among them
Mr. and Mrs. John D. Little, of At
lanta.
The tango, the turkey trot, the Bos
ton dip, the bunny hug and even fho
old-fashioned waltz and two-step
were on the program. A bewildering
variety of champange and other into* -
icating beverages flowed freely all
night, and the guests departed wiih
the coming of dawn somewhat sleepy,
but in a jolly good humor.
Kaiser's Son Is Too

wife of Prince Eitel Fritz, the Kai
ser’s second son. has left her bus-
band. She is staying alone and in
cognito in the Ritz Hotel In Paris
One of the principal reasons for the
rupture Is that the Prince recently
has grown very stout.

MONTREAL, Dec. 30.—The second
disastrous fire within 24 hours occurred
n waterless Montreal to-day when two
blocks in St. Lawrence boulevard were
burned. The fire ls still burning and

HAMMOND, IND., Dec 30.—Chief of
Police Okrag uetailed Officer James
O’Keefe last night to duty at a mas
querade to keep the dancers ten Inches
apart.
O’Keefe took a number of drinks,
brandished a revolver and ordered the
dancers to dance the bear. They did.

Heir Is Nearly Well

announced that the Czarevitch’s health
has been benefited by his prolonged
stay In the.Crimea.
From moving pictures showing the
imperial family's doings there, it is ap
parent that the Czarevitch is moving
about freely, with only a slight limp.
Kaiser's Daughter
Is Expecting Stork

BERLIN. Dec. 30.—The Duchess of
Brunswick the Kaiser's only daughter,
who was married last May, expects a
happy event in the spring.
The Kaiserin is going to Brunswick at
the end of February to be with her
daughter.

Years for Loop Feat

PARIS, Dec. 30.—The police will take
action against Aviator (Juillaux for
“looping the loop" above the city. Guil-
laux has been suspended as a duly qual
ified airman by the French Aero Club
for ten years.
NEW YORK, Dec*. 30.—Frederick
Greisheimer, of Chicago, estranged
husband of Lillian Lorraine, was
served with papers in a separation
suit when he called at her request to
offer his assistance when he was in
formed she had been robbed of furs
and diamonds valued at $6,000.

Greisheimer called at her apartments
“Tell Miss Lorraine Freddie Greis-
j heimer is here,’’ he said to the clerk at
the desk. And he added: “I’m no
easy mark, you know.”
A moment later a trim maid step
ped out of the elevator and present
ed Greisheimer with two envelopes—
one dainty and small, the other long,
and bearing a distrustful legal air
about it.
Greisheimer seized the smaller en
velope and glanced at it. Then he
tore it »nto fine shreds and stamped
his feet upon the marble floor. His
friend rescued the legal envelope
from a similar fate.
“You see,” Miss Lorraine said,
“they were the papers in my sepa
ration suit which l had had prepared
this afternoon. When I heard that he
had called, I saw my opportunity.
And it worked like a charm, did it
not? I don’t doubt that he was a
wee bit angry. Wouldn’t you be?”
The complaint charges inhuman
treatment and desertion. Miss Lor
raine says he threatened her with his
flsts and told her he would cut off
her nose.
Greisheimer said he already has
started to have papers prepared in a
suit for divorce against his wife. He
will name, according to his statement,
two persons.

Title Again Rejected

OTTAWA, ONT.. Dec. 30.—Premier
Robert L. Borden again has declined a
title In connection with the forthcom
ing New Year's honors, according to a
London dispatch to The Georgian.
Mr. Borden, it is stated, is democrat
ic in his tastes and prefers to follow
the example of Balfour, Chamberlain.
Gladstone and Bright, each of whom
refused to accept a title.

played poker for the right to woo her.
James won, but George dashed to
