of the Columbus Public Schools and
of the Columbus Public Library,)
In just a few years women every
where will pe voting, as naturally as
though it had beew going on for w
hundred years, and people will won
der why it had not been.
There is not the slightest reason
why women should not vote. There
are many excuses put forth as rea
gons, but even as excuses they are
feeble. None of them will bear im
partial analysis.
They tell us that women would
cause cranky legislation.
Well, can you say that the men
have passed no cranky laws? Can
You say that the world is not full of
men cranks?
Put woman in contact with politics
and she will soon know as much
about the subject as any man; that
is, if she keeps up an interest in it
and if she does not, ehe will simply
drop it, as many men have doune.
How could suffrage disrupt the
home? It would be hecause the wo
man would quit home and go tearing
around the country on political ram-
Page, or because the man would gol
afraid of his wife and take to the
woods, or because a woman's time
would be soo much taken up that she
could not attend to her household
affairs, or because the hushand and
wife would break up in a row over
politics. Do you think that any of
these things could or would happen?
As to home, it is called the unit
of the nation, and if that is the case,
woman is the mainstay of the na
tion, because she is the main element
i the home and certainly should
have a voice in the nation’s affairs,

IT is most unusual for us to use such a large advertising space to talk about our store and of our”
way of doing business, but as we have an important message for the women of Georgia and
the South, we use this big space in their edition, so it may be fully told.
What Is in
a Name?
By Mrs. Frances E,.
Whiteside
There is one name in the
Banking business, one name in
the Jewelry business, one name
in the Grocery business, one
name in the Piano business, and
one name in most businesses,
which, in the popular opinion,
is the representative name in
its particular field.
There is such a name in the
Hardware business, too, and we
all in the South know it to be
the King Hardware Co.

Woman’s Achievements
In Columbus, Ga.
By MISS EDWINA WOOD,
{President of the City Federation of
Women's Clubs of Columbus.)
The history of woman's work in Co
lumbus is the history of woman’s
work everywhere in the world where
there is a community conscience. Why
did woman ever seek any work other
than that of her home? Helen Kel
ler says:
“We women have often been told
that the home contains all the inter
este and duties in which we are con
cerned; our province is limited by the
‘walls of a house, and to emerge from
this honorable circumscription, to
share in anv broad enterprise, would
be not only %Iladylike, but unwoman
ly.
“Every morning they leave their
homes to tend machines, to scrub of
fice buildings, to sell goods in depart
ment stores. Soclety not only permits
them to leave their proper sphere;
it forces them to this unwomanly de
sertion of the hearth in order that
they may not starve.
“Woman's gphere is the home, nnd‘
there, too, is the sphere of man. The
home embraces everything ge strive
for in this world.” '
Turns Her From Custom.
It was this home-making interest
in woman that caused her to’ leavul
the bheaten track prescribed by
custom and seek to expresg herself in
a way that wonld meet present condi
tions. Some few years ago, when
women's clubs were first organlzcd,'
wise men and many women, too,
shook their heads and declared thatl
only evil could come of guch a move
ment.
Women would neglect thelr hus
bands and children, and the home
would be wrecked. Now, every com
munity boasts not only of its wom
en's clubs, but calls on those organ:-

In Columbus, the first woman's club

from that club the work has grown
until to-day we number more than a

two years ago the time seemed op

all of the women’'s clubs were asked

“The King Hardware
Co.’s Merchandise”
—By Mrs. Emily McDougald
There are certain concerns in
every line of business the qual
ity of whose merchandise is
never questioned.
Rather, it is a foregone con
clusion—one takes it for grant
ed as readily as one might take
sugar with tea.
The King Hardware Com
pany is to be classified with
the kind of concerns referred
to, for the quality of its hard
ware merchandise and its rea
sonable prices are too well
known to need much comment.
