Berry Cohen Has Thrilling Trip
From Atlanta to Spring-
field, Mass.
Berry Cohen. of Atlanta, found a
warm welcome waiting for him at the
home of the Indian motorcycle in
Rpringfleld, Mas* , when he arrive*! there

He rode the same 1915 three-speed
Indian on which he finished with the
Atlanta Indian team in the Atlanta-
Blrmlngham 422-mile endurance run a
few weks ago He escaped any mechnn-
ioal trouble on the road, his only hold
up being a puncture.
In the stretch between Fredericks- i
burg, Va., and Washington. I). C.. he |
found no mads and had to take to the j
woods. To make the feat more remark- I
able, he carried Joseph Shapiro, of At- |
lania. a lightweight boxer, as a tandem
passenger from Atlanta to Atlantic City,
leaving his passenger there, he dusted
over the remainder of th© trip to
Springfield alone.
Just a Boy.
Cohen is only 19 years old, being en
gaged in the bicycle business at At

After a few days In the Georgia me
tropolis, they Journeyed back In the
.Studebaker toward New York way. arid
after an extended tour of the entire
Fast* n section of the United States,
returned to Atlanta on May 17 of the
present year.
They h:*d registered the above mile
age, seen the entire Eastern oart of
the country in minute detail and
brought information backed up with af
fidavits that, except for the minor ills
every tourist Is heir to, the Studeba
ker had not made one bobble since
they left the dominion of King George.
Nor have they finished this little “Joy
ride.” leaving here they are driving
straight to New York, where they will
connect with the Lincoln Highway and
sprsyl on to the San Francisco Fair.
After a month on the Pacific Coast,
it is their intention to drive hack to
Vanrouvei and take a look at the old
home place. “But.’’ says Snipe, “you
never can tell. We might even then
try It still farther, if only to see If this
Studebaker will ever miss a stroke.”
Their record of thirteen months of
continuous travel is hardly ever equaled
and the performance of the car is re
markable. Needless to say, their trip
has been brimful of adventure and
pleasures galore.
He started May B. but laid over at j
the places named, as he made the trip
for pleaaure and to see aomethlng of the
country.
At Greensboro, he did a stroke of busi
ness for Avery, the local dealer, his
demonstration of the Indian's dualities
convincing a prospect whose preference
bad been for another make of machine.

Wrist watches will not become a part
of the regalia of the mounted police if
Lieutenant Albert L. Denman, of the
Chicago police fores, has anything to
say about it.
Also Fred Cagey, of the “beauty
•quad.” will probably decline if he is
ever asked to lead a “We Want Wrist
Watches” campaign
Lieutenant Denman heard that Po
liceman Gagey had blossomed forth in
a cute wrist watch.
The policeman was called to Lieuten
ant Denman’s office.
“Let me see your wrist," th
tenant commanded.
Gagey evidently had a “hunch what
was coming, for he displayed an arm
devoid of ornaments.
Lieutenant Denman suspected Gsgey
had taken off the Jewelry for the inter
view. and 1n the absence of the time
piece did not deter him one whit.
“It seems that you are a trifle too
eager for publicity," he said. "You’ll
do special duty for fifteen days."
“Officer Gagey Is a dependable man.
but no one who puts himself In a posi
tion to be made s ’sissy’ can work for
me without a reprimand," said Lieuten
ant Denman In discussing the Incident
“It’s another case, of an otherwise good
man falling for a desire for publicity."

Cincinnati Begins
Move for Speedway
Talk of a track which has been
going on for some time has resulted In
th© formation of the Cincinnati Mo
tor Speedway Company, which pro
poses to oonstruct a two and a half
mile speedway, which also will in
clude the iiau&l country club idea. The
organization meeting was held at the
Business Men’s Club, and was presid
ed over by Dr. Charles L. Bonlfleld,
president of the Cincinnati Automo
bile Club. It was decided to form a
stock company, with a capitalization
of $6,000. and seven directors were
elected.

To-day more attention than ever is
being centered upon the subject of tire
mileage. The manufacturers are fight
ing a fierce battle of competition to sup
ply the enormous demand; motor car
owners are finding out a thing or two
for themselves before they choose this
tire or that: and chauffeurs and em
ployed drivers, by taking better care
of their tires, are trying to hold down
this item of expense—the biggest one
to-day in motoring
The AJax-Grieb people decided to put
on a tire contest in which all chauf
feurs or employed drivers of automo
biles were invited to participate, and
offered as an inducement cash prizes
amounting to $6,000 to the drivers get
ting the greatest number of mileage out
of Ajax tires. Almost Immediately aft
er the inception of this practical Idea
of demonstrating what could be done
witli tiros, entries from all over the
United States were made, and chauf
feurs everywhere showed a lively inter
est in the plan
A Popular Plan.
After the first contest of this kind had
been put on by the AJax-Grieb Rubber
Company tho officials were convinced
from the testimonials of thousands of
users of Ajax tires that this plan was
popular, so they decided to repeat the
contest.
The announcement of results of this
second contest has recently been made,
giving the names of the 208 prize win
ning chauffeurs who averaged 7722 miles
in the $5,000 Ajax tire mileage contest.
The makers have already announced
the third annual renewal of the con
test for employed drivers and chauf
feurs. again offering $5,000 to be given
in 208 awards. In the event of a tie. a
prize identical with that tied for will be
awarded each contest. The contest
closes March 21. 1916. Hughson A Mer
