Liverpool Exchange was closed to-day,
the local cotton market opened steady
with first prices at a net advance of 3
to 4 {)olnu from Friday's close. Imme
diately after the call prices worked off
6 to 10 points from the opening range,
based on reports of rain in Northwest
Texas. There also was some lomnf on
the report of the -lnkln& of the British
steamer Iberian by a German subma
rine.
The Journal of Commerce placed the
condition of the croz at 77.83 per cent, or
24 per cent less than a month ago.
This, however, had no effect on the mar
ket, the trade being Inclined to await
the Government's condition figures,
which will be {ssued Monday.
Covering by week-end shorts steadled
the market In the late trading, with the
result that active positions advanced 3
points from the lowest levels,
