WASHINGTON, Dec. 6.—Repreagen
tative A. P. Gardner, of Massachu-~
setts, to-day introduced a resolution
in the House for a searching inquiry
into the membership, finances and ac

Presenting the resolution, Mr. Gard -
ner said he was getting tired of in
sinuations that his motives are cor

House ought to investigate the activi.
ties of public men on both sides of the
question, including himself, a sesl
whether, directly or indirectly, they
are trying to make money for them
selves or for others, :
The resolution provides that the
Speaker select a committee of five for

WASHINGTON, Dec. 6. —Following
one of the most spectacular street
demonstrations yet seen in Washing~

every section ‘of the nation, resolu

the same time there was placed on file
a monster petition containing 500,000
signatures, asking that the resolution

‘the women proceeded to the White
House, where they were received by

Representative Mondell has ar

The monster parade was headed by
Mrs. Field and Mles Jolliqe, who
brought the petition across the conti

En route to the White House, the
delegation halted at the east front of
the Capitol. There more than 100
| Senators and Representatives, mostly
from the suffrage States, were wall

lawmakers was handed the petition,
which is 15,000 feet long.
Hepresentative Mondell welcomed
the delegates In a brief -p.oebh in
which he pald high tribute to Mrs,

and promised that every effort would
be made to gecure favorable action on

The Congressional Unlon for Wom «

Susan B. Anthony, the. mother of
woman suffrage, advocated the adop

many years ago. She urged that the
States would never gingly give women
the right to vote, and that the only
sure pathway to victory was the na

The amendment grom by the

are solidly behind it.
