HOMERS BEST OF ALL,
By J. WALLACE WILLIAMS,
Ithaca, Texas.
Force‘tfint years the writer has studled
practi ¥ every breed, except crosses,
and they fall under the same rule in re
gard to proiificness. The conclusion
reached Is not mere guesswork, but is
in line with the gonciusions of other
breeders who have studied the facts re

not be over 36 ounces to he“fm.ir. Tha
best type in Carneaux should not he
over 42 ounces to the pair. And no
breed should avera.ie over three poundsg

the breeder may have or whatever breed
he may buy, but he should remember
that the breeding qualities of whatever
breed he has is according to the aver
age size of his birds. If there are anv
doubts, satisfy them b{i watchtng the
smallest birds. It is not how big a breed

every ounce that is added to a bird
above a medium size, regardless of the
breed, must be added a Proportlonun

the expense and trouble of the breeder
for whrch he is not duly compensated.
MONEY IN EGGS.
(BX A. J. Lawson, Cleveland, Tenn.)
t this time of year there are soma
attractive bargains offered in pullets
and yearling hens, and it would be wiss
for those who are interested in estab
lishing an e farm, or a broiler plant,
to watch tho‘,ournals and cateh some of
‘those bargains and buy hens now, or
econtract now for og:: for the broiler
rlum. Also it will a ,ood thing for
\ hose who have anything for sale in tha
way of eggs or ltock‘ to get in to the
“ournlll. tell the people what you have,
and {)ust now even in the dull season is
the best time to find your customers,
for the wise buver is looking out now
for a place to buy his stuff,
Now there is no doubt about the u{
business being a profitable one. And
have never tried the broiler business,
but T am sure and those who have tried
it tell me that it 18 a fine business and
& profitable business In such localities
as can be found in this country, where
there is a demand for fancy broilers.
But 1 do know there is moner in the
egg business and you can get it out if
you bhave the right breed, and the rl"h!
gtrain of that gnod. for you will find
that the strain has more to do with the
elg-groducln‘ power of ln; breed than
the rm has. Now, as the orlgnnwr
and breeder of Lawson's Blue Ribbon
egg machine, single comb White Leg
horns, and as I have tried and tested to
my own satisfaction as well as to the
satisfaction of hundreds of others that
there is a flc:od profit in keeping this
strain of fowls for eggs, vet I know, too,
that there are other breeds and other
strains of this breed that will pay their
kuxr A& handsome profit if p rly
l{ Here is a little of my H:Ion«

can do. 1 kept a strict account of 480

These 450 hens gave me an average of
m:nwdal. for the whole time as
stat above, November 15 to May 15
This was :li.h Per day. and the total
cost of feed (wholesale erou. of
course), was $2.50 per day. All the work
was done at hom%. no hired help. Now,
this was done without any faney touches
or any fancy housing or ul:{ forced esg
production feeding. Iwi Eive my

and that is money and experience. You
must bave some monsy (o start on a

right some one must be at the head of
it that has a good practical experience,
