mont Driving Club Friday eve
ning, given by 100 of the women
who are frequent guests at the club
affairs during the year, was a compli
ment to the men who have honored
them with invitations repeatedly for
the past season, and proved a bril
llant occaslon.
The men who were present prompt
ly at 9 o'clock drew for the prize, a
silver pencil, and this was won by
Evelyn Harris,
The ball started with a cotillion fig
ure, led by Miss Helen Barnes, of Ma
con, with James H. Nunnally. The
favors were reins with tinkling bells
for thé gentlemen and whips for the
\ladlen. They formed the chariot fig--
ure, the women driving the men be
fore them with their whips.
Just before supper the second fig
ure was led by Miss Harriet Huger
Smith, of Memphis, who is visiting
Miss Isoline Campbell, and with her
was Thomas B. Paine. “Dixle” was
played, and flags and soldier caps
were distributed,
Joseph Brown Connally, with Miss
Anne Kilby, of Anniston, the guest of
Miss Loulse Broyles, led the last fig
ure, when horns and confetti were
given the guests.
The ballrom was decorated with
tall palms banked in the fireplace and
about the doorways, and the mural
decorations were of smilax. Garlands
of the smilax hung from the pillars,
and tre chandeliers were wreathed
with the greenery.
For the supper the guests were
seated in groups of eight and ten at
tables in the dining room. There a
color scheme of rose prevalled. Vases
of Killarney Bright roses graced the
centers of the tables, and a tracery of
smilax appeared about the center
plece,
The floor committee, with their es
corts, were seated at one large round
table in the center of the room, where
covers were laid for 24. Dancing con
tinued until 4 o'clock.

Athens, and Anne Kilby, of Anniston,
visiting Miss Louise Broyles; Miss

The East Lake Country Club was
the scene of a Leap Year ball Thurs
day evening. A large number of
guests motored out for the event, and
preceding the ball many dinner par
ties were given,
Elaborate decorations rnullcd in
all apartments of the club. In the
large living room a shower of red
hearts fell from the cdelling, and from
the chandelier was -u::endod a Cu
pid, from which radlated streamers of
red ribbon and red hearts. Festoons
of red hearts outlined all the door
wavs, and in the palm room there
were vases of red roses. Smilax and
bamboo formed a mural decoration,
and red roses, carnations and narciss!
decorated many of the tables In the
dining room, where the place cards
were In red and were heart-shaped,
There were a number of visitors In
the list of guests, and the Leap Year
bill proved one of a series of success.

will act as toastmaster. Members
only will be present.
