the pleas he made on “preparedness”

address was delivered at a patriotic
rally in honor of George Washington.

Audience Quenches
Fire at Auditorium
The audience listening to Congreas
man Howard's speech at the Auditorium
Thursday night was unaware of a small
fire in the building and sat comfortab:y
through - the program, while John
Knight, county jailer, and Jim MeGriff,
engineer at the Atlantic Compress Com
pany, extinguished the blaze.
The men found the fire behind a ra.
diator near the main entrance. It was
eating its way from the floor when dis
covered, but they used a wall extin
guisher and stopped the flames before
any great damage was done.
