hundreds and hundreds of dollars I've
paid out in the last five years for mod
icines and treatment,” said C. R. Irign
a well-known Atlanta machinist, re
siding in the suburb of Oakland City,
to Dr. E. B. Elder at Jacobs’ Phar
macy a few days ago.
“She had been sguffering from a bad
stomach trouble for the last five !
vears,” he continued, “and was getting
down so bad that she couldn’'t slesp
at night and was weak and just alll
o pieces, |
“"Besides that, her limbs would burn
her and swell up until, actually, she
couldn’t get her shoes on sometimes.
She fell off in welght and seemed to
be tired and lifeless all the time
“She never felt like eating anything,
and what she did eat would not agree
with her or do her any good. She

she could hardly stand it. Blliousness
bothered her a good deal, and ‘he
paing in her stomach seemed to bring
on other pains in her back and chest
“Like a lot of other folks in Atlanta
I've been reading about, we concluded
to try Tanlac after everything oslse
had failed, and we certainly got ihe
relief we were looking for. | was not
surprised, though, for both of us knew
a number of the people that had been

in the papers.
“She has taken three bhottmes now

She has gained ten pounds and has
picked up in strength until vou'd

baby, eats anything she wants and is
hungry every time the bell rings: |
there's no trouble about her appetite
now. She takes more interest in ev.
erything and doesn't have the least
trouble with her stomach or the swell
ings. They have left her entirely,
“The fact is Tanlac has made us
both happy, and we are telling all our
friends about it. We feel like it has
helped us out of a lot of trouble and
saved us a lot of money, too, and
that's no small item in these hard
times. It's & wonderful medicine and
has shown juet what it will do; so I

LONDON, March B—A new offen-

by the German Crown Prince, accord- {

from Holland. The scene of the new ,
drive, which, it is said, will equal in
ferocity that launched at Verdun, will |
be along the Verdun-Belfort line. Bel- ‘

southern end of the ¥French eastern
defense line. Toul and Epinal are the
other links in the fortress chain be
tween Verdun and the Swiss border,
The Crown Prince and his staff are
said to have slipped away from the
fighting at Douaumont a few days ago
and to have inspected the German
troops and military preparations in
Upper Alsace. According to the ru
mors current last rnight, the Crown
Prince will establish his headquarters
at Mulhausen in order to direct the
operations which it is expected will
develop in the Belfort region.
Corroboration of the reported Ger
man plans is contained in a dispateh
to The Daily News from Amsterdam,
which says that French reserves are
being nrought in large numbers to re

Story of Susan Lenox—Her Fall

The book is elevated by being
written with a wholesome pur
pose. Mr. Phillipe had a cour
agoous purpose and he moved to
it nufalteringly. The heroine of
the novel was born under a cioud.

She was illegitiomie. That
means that she was not legaily a

Mr. Pblllips found so muach in

her in all sorts of situations and
cast her down into every va

touching rhe unclean thing; one
effect is to drag one still lower.
Sin natarally begets sin. A fail
ing body tends to fall more and
more rapidly. So does a falling
sou! tend to fall more and more
rapidly; but all depends on the
sonl. There are cases where sin
strikeg the soul dead. There are
also cases where stn brings back
a dying soul to moral conscious
ness. It depends on the soul.
Phillips believed there is ne
moral fatality in illegitimacy
He did not construe her birth
in that way. He held that ilie
gitimacy defrauded Susan neither
of her proper prerogatives nor
robbed her of possibilities open
ing the way to attainments as
fine, a 8 womanly, as angelic as
those of any other woman. Thai
was the final stroke of discipline
that the anthor inflicted wupon
Susan. He let her fall and them
let her show that to fall is not
necessarily fatal, and that even
in the midst of a debased expers
ence there is still room for that
kind of moral elasticity that
works itself out in the rebound.
And moo we have the story of the
fa!l, sapplemented by the reeftal
of the rise of Susan Lenox.
