The law of Georgia declares a finder
of lost goods who, having means of
knowing the rightful owner, retains
them for the finder's own use or advan
age, may upon conviction thereof be
punished for simple larceny. A person
who finds lost goods is legally liable to
the rightful owner for their proper care
while in the finder's possession, and he
is legally entitled to be reimbursed for
expenses incurred in properly caring for
the goods found, and may retain them
until such expenses are paid.
