\ scene of great brilliancy was the
piedmont Driving Club Tuesday evd
ning when the opera dinner-dance was
given there,
Throughout spring flowers added
their charm to the place, There were
ard'nieres of pink honeysuckle and
powls of snapdragons in the living
oo and reception room, while the
cggle was a summer garden filled
with ferns, rubber plants, growlngi
zaleas and hanging baskets, |
i the ballroom the tables for din
ner were set, Kach had as its cen-!
{erpiece a vase of pink rosebuds, and
(he menu cards were hand painted in
pink roses. Small pink baskets held
the French bonbons, and the candles
were shaded in pink, About the wall
was festooned smilax and bamboo and
the wall baskets held ferns. The big
ireplace was banked with palms and
ferns. The dining room was decorated
with ferns, smilax and pink roses also,
and here many parties were seated for
dinner. ;
Beautiful Toilettes Seen.
The decorations formed a pleasing
ackground for the elegant toilettes
orn by the women.
\irs. Floyd Mcßae's gown was of
areen tulle over silver tissue. The em
proidery of the corsage was of silver
threads and the tulle sleeves were fin
ished with silver beads.
Mrs, Willlam 8. Elkin wore a hand
some toilette of white tulle over white
satin, A drapery of black tulle em
roidered in silver fell over the white
tunics, and the bodice was of the black
embroidered tulle over white chiffon.
Mrs, E. P, Mcßurney wag gowned
white tulle. The full hooped skirt
was edged with a tracery of small
rhinestones, and the rhinestones ap
peaved In embroidery design upon the
orsage.,
Mrs., William Randolph Hearst, of
New York, wore bronze tulle over taf
‘ta. The bodice was of tulle com
yned with the taffeta.
Mrs. H. M. Atkinson wore white
J'e embroidered in silver.
Gown of Pastel Green. l
Mrs, John E. Murphy was gowned
n pastel green silk brocaded in sil- |
ver combined with silver lace.
Mrs. William Lawson Peel wore
vlack chiffon embroidered in crystals
and trimmed in point de lierre lace.
Mrs. William R. Huntley, of Buffalo,
wiho was in the party with Dr. and
Mre. Willis Westmoreland, wore a
gown of white tulle combined with
zreen tulle in the moss shade. The
embroidery was in opalescent beads.
Mrs., Charles Dannals wore a gownl
of American Beauty tulle over flesh
colored satin. The full tunics were
edged with satin in the deep shade of
the tulle draperies, and the corsage
was of satin and tulle,
Mrs. W. G. Bryan wore silver lace
combined with silver tissue. The
flounces of lace fell over the petticoat
of tissue and the bodice was of silver
lace over silver-gray chiffon. She
were a corsage of orchids.
» Mrs. Bryan's mother, Mrs. John
Aynn Campbell, of Chicago, was|
gowned in black tulle. The bodice
was embroidered in jet and her flow
s were orchids.

The barbecue at the Drujd Hills
Golf "Club on Wednedday assembled
about 700 people and was informal in
nature. The tables on the golf links
were rustic and had no decorations.
A band furnished music during the
luncheon hcour and in the afternoon
when there was dancing in the ball
room and upon the terrace,
The terrace had as its decorations
bay trees and stataly palms. In the
ballroom were ferns and palms with
spring tlowers banked in the fireplace,
‘There were jJardinieres of wild flow
ers In the reception hall,
The women wore thelr tallored sults
and sport clothes.
