Demise of Dr. Edward 0.

Dr. J. Sprole Lyon, pastor of the
First Preshyterian Church, Thursaay
received news of the death in Doug
las, Ga., of Dr. Edward O. Guerrant,
78, of Wilmore, Ky., one of the most
distinguished ministers in the South
ern Fresbyterian Church. Dr, Guer
rant was at the home of his daughter,
in Douglas, at the time of his death,
he having stopped over there on his
way to Kentucky from his winter
home in Plorida. - The body will be
taken Thursday afternoon to Ken
tucky’for tHe funeral.
Dr. Guerrant was a brilliant pulpit
orator and a striking figure in the
Southern Preshyterlan Church. He
was a graduate of Center College,
Kentucky, and for a long while was a
prominent physician. He entered the
ministry in 1875, and held a number
of pastorates in Kentugky, including
the First Presbyterian Church, es
Louisville, the former pastorate of
Dr. Lyon, He later was called to
evangelistic work in Kentucky, and
organized the “American Inland Mis
sion,” devoting his energies to the up
lift of the mountain clagses, He
wrote several books dealing with the
spread of the gospel in the moun
tains and the situation there gen
erally,
Dr, Gyerrant was a Confederate vet
eran, h“:vlng won a brillant record

To Father's Funeral
News has been received in Atlanta
of the death in Springfield, Ohic, of
George W. Hastings, father of H. G.
Hastings, CChamber of Commerce »i

seedsmen.
Mr. Hastings has gone to the fu
neral. His mother died about a year
ago in Springfeld.
The funeral of Mrs, Samuel Newelt,
80, who died Wednesday at the
home, No. 347 Washington street,
was held there Thursday, Rabbi
David Marx officlating, and the in
terment was in Oakland,
The funeral of Mrs. R. L. Mansfield,
40, who died Tuesday at the home,
No. 182 West Falr street, was held
Thursday from Poole's, and the in
terment was in Westview,
The body of J. H. Williams, 37, who
died Wednesday afternoon at a pri
vate hospital, is at Poole's awalting
funeral arrangements, Mr. Wil
liams is survived by a brother, J.
L. Willlams, of South Pittsburg,
Tenn. He was a member of the
Molders’' Unlon.
Louis R. Relf, 34, for a number of
years a resident of Washington, D.
C, dled at the sanitarium at Mil
ledgeville Wednesday evening. In
terment will be at Warrenton, Ga.,
Friday. Mr. Relf is survived by his
wife, his mother and two sisters, of
New Orleans.

Hospital without regaining con
sclousness after being attacked late

His head was badly battered, probably
with a pistol.
Orovitz was known as a quiet and
‘conservative business man and as far
as officers know had mno trouble of
any kind in his business dealings.
He came here five years ago and had
been very successful. He was found

store in a pool of blood. The attack
apparently was made about 4 o'clock.
It was an hour later that he was dig
